Weight-driven clocks, as the name suggests, are mechanical clocks powered by falling weights that hang on a chain or cable. With the aid of gravity, the weights are pulled down slowly, typically in a period of 7 days. After which, the weights go back up. The chain or cable holding the weight needs to be manually pulled up or wound using a crank to start another cycle. 1, record 1, English, - weight%2Ddriven%20clock

Thermohaline convection is a wellknown process in oceanography : warm salted layers on the top of cool unsalted ones rapidly diffuse downwards even in the presence of stabilizing temperature gradients, due to the different diffusivities of heat and salt. When a warm salted blob falls down in cool fresh water, the heat diffuses out more quickly than the salt. The blob goes on falling due to its weight until it mixes with the surroundings... 1, record 2, English, - thermohaline%20convection

2, record 2, French, - convection%20thermohaline

Master the Overhead Squat.... If you do it right, the overhead squat is an effective movement for your legs, hips, shoulders, even your abs [abdominal muscles].... When trying to perform an overhead squat, a lot of people either shift their weight too far forward onto their toes or back onto their heels, among other mistakes. You want to aim to keep your weight balanced over the middle of your arches, with your arms over your feet. Begin in a standing position, holding a dowel overhead with your arms straight and your feet about shoulder-width apart. Initiate the movement with your hips, squatting back and down until the tops of your thighs are at least parallel to the floor. As you go, think about pulling the dowel apart with your hands. Push through your hips to return to a standing position. 2, record 5, English, - overhead%20squat

The body weight squat is perhaps the best lower body exercise a person can do. It basically works all the major muscle groups of the thighs, glutes and hamstrings.... Position your feet slightly wider then hip-width apart with your toes slightly turned out. Hold your hands out in front of you at shoulder height. This will counterbalance your weight and help you keep your balance. Slowly and under control, bend your knees and lower yourself down as far as you can without lifting your heels off the floor and then, after a brief pause at the bottom, push your weight back up until you are back at the starting position. 1, record 6, English, - body%20weight%20squat

Endurance horses have a physical look which could be described as small and wiry, without excessive muscling. Typical body weight measurements would be in the range of 850 to 1050 pounds. From a body condition standpoint, most endurance horses are moderately thin, resembling human endurance runners. The small, lightly muscled physic of endurance horses is advantageous both for reducing thermal load and for traveling up and down mountains. 1, record 14, English, - endurance%20horse

"Long" is an informal expression used to indicate that a shot went out past the baseline. Important nuance: a "stroke" implies early preparation and a complete follow through. If one were to envision a stroke, one would see a series of sequences, ending with a "shot", i.e. the result of all of the above. Consequently, a "shot" is the result of the "stroke". "Shot" implies a quick, sharp movement because one is focusing on the end result, not the series of sequences leading up to it. A "blow" is rather an imprecise, general term similar in meaning to "shot". Although many would like to maintain these nuances in English, "shot" and "stroke" are often used synonymously. "Blow" is used only rarely. Note, however that although there are two possible equivalents ("coup" and "frappe") in French, neither are semantically identical to the English offerings. The Spanish term "pegada" works well as an equivalent for "shot", although technically the term more specifically refers to the actual hitting action caused by the racket coming in contact with the ball, and not to the end result [cause vs effect]. 2, record 16, English, - shot

Squat down towards the bar until your upper thigh is parallel to the floor. Next, grab the bar with a mixed grip with one hand overhand and one hand underhand. Now, drive your hips upward by contracting your quads and glutes. You are attempting to bring the weight upwards as you stand up. As the bar is being lifted off of the floor, begin to straighten your back up so that it is fully erect. This will utilize the muscles in the back. A pipeline operated at varying temperatures due to occasional shut down of theproduction will expand at positive temperature changes. If the force exerted by the pipe on the soil cover exceeds the vertical restraint created by the pipe's submerged weight, its bending stiffness and the soil cover, the pipe will tend to move in the vertical plane, and considerable displacements may occur.... Custom ski leg with knee joints-a ski leg with two knee joints was designed for an above-knee skier. One knee joint was for walking, and the other for skiing. When the leg is used for skiing, the upper knee joint is locked and the lower knee joint is used-controlled by a compression spring-as it keeps the leg in the flexed position required for skiing. With the amputee's weight on the coil spring, the ski knee can flex as the amputee goes down the hill but will not collapse and buckle. An adjustable ankle to permit the foot to flex to keep the ski parallel to the hill when going down the slopes was also incorporated. 4, record 24, English, - ski%20leg

Wheelbarrowing is a condition that arises when the nosewheel rather than the main gear is forced to support an abnormal share of the aircraft's weight. Touching down on the nosewheel, excessive braking, or friction between the wheels and runway caused by a side-skid may cause wheelbarrowing. Wheelbarrowing can damage a nosewheel or cause an aircraft to yaw uncontrollably off its intended course.. 2, record 26, English, - wheelbarrowing
Record number: 26, Textual support number: 1 OBS
During take-off, "wheelbarrowing" may occur at lower speeds than during landing due to the slipstream increasing the lifting effect of the horizontal stabilizer. The use of excessive forward elevator control pressure during take-off to hold the aircraft on the ground to speeds above normal take-off speed could, if a "yaw" force is introduced, result in serious wheelbarrowing. 3, record 26, English, - wheelbarrowing

JUDO. A characteristic foot throw is de ashi harai [de-ashi-harai]. Tori first shifts uke's weight toward uke's left side. Using the bottom of his left foot, tori sweeps his opponent's right foot, putting opponent's weight entirely onto his left leg and without support on his right side. Tori sharply reverses direction of arm movement, wheeling opponent around and down in the direction of no support. Tori completes the throw by follow-through of arm and leg movements, pulling uke down as the swept foot is lifted, cross-body. A clean throw puts uke onto the mat on his back or side. 5, record 41, English, - de%2Dashi%2Dharai

... another possible way of creating permeability in hot dry rocks is «impact fracturing». This method... [may be described in its principle. ] A bore, cased except near the lower extremity, is surmounted by a hydraulic accumulator, filled with water and pressurized by means of a pump until the accumulator weight is lifted. The lifting pressure should be perhaps about 90% of the estimated hydro-fracturing pressure. A dynamic blow would then be struck upon the top of the water column by means of some device resembling a pile-driver, so that shock waves would travel to the base of the bore and be reflected up and down at attenuating intensity. Very high instantaneous pressures would be generated which would fracture the rock, and it is expected that the steepness of the pressure rise would be such as to resemble explosive action, so that the «star» formation... would be produced. 1, record 44, English, - impact%20fracturing

Although biologists have long known that ruminal bacteria break down cellulose, Craig and his colleagues were the first to prove that the bacteria also protect sheep against poison. They fed tansy ragwort to one group of sheep and administered pyrrolizidine alkaloid(the toxin in tansy ragwort) to another group through a catheter to bypass the rumen. Sheep in the first group ate as much as twice their body weight in tansy ragwort without discomfort; sheep in the second group suffered from anorexia and toxic effects to the liver. 2, record 47, English, - pyrrolizidine%20alkaloid

Quality was of primary importance in developing the pond harvesting system. The shrimp has to be harvested rapidly and on a continuous basis and iced as quickly as possible to retard cellular breakdown and resulting body weight loss in the shrimp. This has been accomplished quite uniquely through a foot valve, pump and dewatering system in combination that deposits the shrimp directly from the pond and into a conveyorized ice bath bringing the temperature of the shrimp down to approximately 40 [degrees) F immediately after removing them from the pond. 1, record 49, English, - pond%20harvesting%20system

Methods of harvesting naturally depend on the culture system, the species cultured and the form in which the product is to be marketed. Properly designed fish ponds have special provisions for draining and easy harvesting, whereas in pens and similar enclosures suitable nets and other fishing devices have to be used. 2, record 49, English, - pond%20harvesting%20system
