Stable belts were part of the uniform termed "stable dress. "It is probable that they were first worn in the British army around the 1880s by the cavalry who were issued a specially designed uniform to avoid damaging their much finer... full dress uniforms when mucking out the stables and tending to their horses.... Buckles became popular in the British army where the wearing of such belts with different clasps and colours could distinguish units when in working dress... Thus was born the stable belt, a broad and eventually colourful belt with the buckles or clasps on the hip to avoid injuring the horses when working with them...

They commonly feature fur fronts, a fur gusset, three to six decorated fur tassels with regular or cross-chains, and a metal cantle at the top.... Full dress sporrans normally fasten at the rear with a stud on a small flap connecting the front and rear of the sporran. As they are the largest style of sporran, they allow the wearer to carry a range of items.

Constables’ Universal Pattern Helmet... The helmet was constructed of layers of cork and covered in cotton fabric. The brass spike and dome base... were used when in full dress uniform. They were replaced by a white, cloth-covered, dome ventilator cap when wearing the undress uniform.

OBS

In 1878 the last of the infantry shakos was replaced by the Home Service blue cloth, spiked, helmet. The Foreign Service Helmet was dyed khaki for active service and a dome ventilator was supplied in lieu of the full dress spike.

In the years since the New Look, several silhouettes have flourished for a time -- the sack dress, the miniskirt, the maxi among them. But the phenomenon of the New Look has yet to be duplicated.

Dior's Decade-Women'sFashions of the 1950s. Silhouette... silhouettes were more varied. On these outlines, women wore a trim bodice and very full knee-length skirt, or a fitted short, boxy jacket or blouse with a pencil-straight skirt. One style that hid all the rest, literally, was the cocoon-like sacque dress and coat, which fitted the shoulders and bloomed at the waist and hips.
