Subject field(s)
  • Indigenous Peoples
OBS

The term "Indigenous knowledge" is sometimes used to refer collectively to the complex knowledge systems that are based on the world views of Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous knowledge reflects the interdependence between the communities and their traditional lands, and is based on observations, lessons and skills acquired over many generations through direct experience. It is a living and dynamic process that is still evolving and is critical for community survival as well as resource management and sustainability.

OBS

The plural form, "Indigenous knowledges," is often used to show the diversity of knowledge and the distinctiveness of Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous knowledges include traditional ecological knowledge, Inuit knowledge, Métis knowledge and First Nations knowledge.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Peuples Autochtones
OBS

... ICAI programs contain two types of knowledge: content knowledge about the subject matter being taught and pedagogical knowledge, that is, knowledge about how to teach the subject.

CONT

Student requests can be handled by applying pedagogical knowledge to decide how best to respond, and to replan instruction if necessary.

CONT

Dynamic instructional planning uses these capabilities to apply pedagogical knowledge to reason about instructional actions that a tutor can perform.

Over the past decades, a commendable effort to conserve crop diversity has resulted in the establishment of more than 1, 700 genebanks around the world that safeguard over 7. 4 million crop samples. These valuable ex situ conservation efforts must be complemented, however, by parallel actions that encourage the maintenance of crop diversity in farmers’ fields and enhance its use to unleash its nutrition, livelihood and sustainability benefits. The X-15 provided the first opportunity to study the effects of acoustical fatigue over a wide range of Mach and dynamic pressures. In these first inflight measurements, "noise" related stresses were found to be a function of g-force, not Mach number. The term "knowledge compilation" is the exact opposite of the term "knowledge decompilation". Yet both denote the passage to an improved stage of expertise.

CONT

Generative reduction can be viewed as a form of dynamic decompilation of knowledge. As such, it is intended to interpret the student's actions with inferences that support pedagogical actions of increased generality. However, when performed by on-line inferential simulations, dynamic knowledge decompilation may require the coexistence of multiple models of expertise as in WEST, with different levels of articulation, so that diagnosis involves a combination of model tracing, reconstruction and issue recognition.

DEF

A unit of decision in a didactic process. It is more general than a didactic intervention, in that it does not necessarily correspond to actions visible to the student. Defined in the framework of "plan", it includes all situations from the simple prestored interventions of current systems to the dynamic knowledge communication capabilities of futuristic tutors(See Macmillan and Sleeman, 1987).

CONT

In addition to generating an episode of actions or subgoals, a didactic operation can generate explicit diagnostic expectations.

OBS

Most didactic operations in today’s tutors consist of a single basic action, such as presenting a piece of prestored text or submitting a selected problem. Since these prefabricated interventions are didactically planned during system design, the granularity of the decisions that remain to the system itself is fairly coarse. It can be refined, however, if the underlying plan or the set of expectations are made explicit to the system.
