A vacuum phototube with additional amplification by electron multiplication.

OBS

It consists of a photocathode, a series of dynodes, called a dynode chain on which a secondary-electron multiplication process occurs, and an anode. According to the desired response time, transit time, time spread, gain, or low dark current, different types of dynode structures have been developed, e.g. circular cage structure, box and grid structure. Some special dynode structures permit combination with additional electric or magnetic fields.

L'irradiation laser sur les milieux biologiques a deux conséquences : des effets thermiques (une très forte chaleur est dégagée au point d'impact), les mieux connus, et des effets non thermiques encore imparfaitement connus. D'une façon générale, ce sont les premiers qui sont employés en médecine.

OBS

Il semble qu'à côté de l'effet purement thermique du laser, des effets peuvent se manifester sur les grosses molécules et les enzymes de la matière vivante (effets chimiques).
