DEF

Instrument used to monitor and quantify the products eluted from a chromatography column. Techniques used are based on the physical, chemical or biological properties of the molecules and may involve prior conversion by chemical or enzymic means to produce a coloured or fluorescent complex. Physical methods include the use of spectrophotometers, colorimeters, spectrophotofluorometers, refractometers, polarimeters, etc.

CONT

Biological molecules may be monitored using enzyme-linked reactions specific for the required class of compound. Such detectors often include a flow cell so that the fluid passes continuously from the column through the detector. Several types of detector have been developed specifically for use with gas/liquid chromatographs. These include flame ionization and electron capture devices or, where information is required on the exact structure of the compounds, a mass spectrometer. Many are linked to microprocessors for control of the chromatographic analysis, as well as direct computation of results.

CONT

Hydrogen Release Compound(HRC) is a lactic acid ester that is manufactured by Regenesis. When delivered to the subsurface, lactic acid, which has been shown to be an effective electron donor, is released continuously into groundwater. Because this material can be injected directly into the subsurface it can be used to deliver nutrients passively and enhance active biodegradation of chlorinated volatile organic compounds(cVOCs).

CONT

Lactic acid ester is made from edible, fully hydrogenated vegetable fat. It improves foam stiffness in vegetable whipping creams and topping powder. Prevents bloom in chocolate and chocolate compound. Improves cake volume and provides uniform crumb structure in cake margarine and high ratio shortening.

Subject field(s)
  • Metal Joining Processes - Various
CONT

Transient liquid phase(TLP) bonding is a joining process in which a liquid-forming interlayer is placed between the substrates to be joined. At the bonding temperature, the interlayer initially liquates. Subsequently, interdiffusion between the liquid interlayer and the adjacent substrates results in a change in the overall composition of the joint, such that isothermal resolidification of the joint takes place. Standard models of the TLP process assume the sequential occurrence of discrete dissolution, isothermal solidification, and homogenization processes. This study uses edge-on transmission electron microscopy investigations to challenge the general applicability of such standard models to the TLP bonding of a variety of systems involving the B2 type intermetallic compound NiAl as a substrate material.

DEF

a compound that breaks the interdependence of electron transport through the respiratory terminal electron transport chain, or the photosynthetic intermediate electron transport chain, and phosphorylation.

CONT

it thus uncouples respiration and ATP formation; respiration continues or is even increased, but yields no energy.

CONT

Some important uncouplers are 2,4-dinitrophenol (abbreviation: DNP), dicumarol, carbonyl cyanophenylhydrazone, salicyl-anilide etc. These compounds affect only oxidative phosphorylation, but not substrate phosphorylation in glycolysis.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biochimie
CONT
