Instrument used to monitor and quantify the products eluted from a chromatography column. Techniques used are based on the physical, chemical or biological properties of the molecules and may involve prior conversion by chemical or enzymic means to produce a coloured or fluorescent complex. Physical methods include the use of spectrophotometers, colorimeters, spectrophotofluorometers, refractometers, polarimeters, etc. 3, record 2, English, - chromatographic%20detector

Biological molecules may be monitored using enzyme-linked reactions specific for the required class of compound. Such detectors often include a flow cell so that the fluid passes continuously from the column through the detector. Several types of detector have been developed specifically for use with gas/liquid chromatographs. These include flame ionization and electron capture devices or, where information is required on the exact structure of the compounds, a mass spectrometer. Many are linked to microprocessors for control of the chromatographic analysis, as well as direct computation of results. 3, record 2, English, - chromatographic%20detector

1, record 4, French, - courant%20de%20g%C3%A9n%C3%A9ration

The movement of a free electron from atom to atom leaves a hole in the atom it left. This hole is quickly filled by another free electron. As this movement is transmitted throughout the conductor, an electric current is created from the negative to the positive. At the same time, the "hole" has been moved backward in the conductor as one free electron after another takes its place in a sort of chain reaction. "Hole flow" is from positive to negative. Current flow in a transistor, then, may be either electron movement or hole flow, depending on the type of material, and this determines the type of transistor it is as well. 2, record 6, English, - hole%20flow

Thermionic or Electron Impact Detector. In 1957, Ryce and Bryce described a sensitive ionization gauge based on the ionization potentials of vapors. It comprised a filament, a grid, and a plate. The potential difference between the filament and grid accelerated electrons which may ionize any gas in their path. If the grid potential is maintained at a level insufficient to ionize the helium carrier gas... no current flows in the plate circuit. If a potential difference of 18 V is maintained between the filament and the grid, compounds of lower ionization potential in the helium will be ionized and the positive ions produced will yield a cathode current, the current noted being a measure of the ion concentration. Into the modified ionizing chamber, operated at reduced pressure, a small fraction of the column effluent gas stream(less than 0. 5%) was allowed to flow into the gauge through a controlled leak. Over a 0. 02-l. 5 mm Hg pressure range, the sensitivity was approximately proportional to the pressure, and sensitivities in the range of 10[ minus superscript 12] mole were claimed. 1, record 9, English, - electron%20impact%20detector

A hypothetical mechanism for coupling electron transfer to ATP synthesis... proposed in 1961 by Peter Mitchell [who] suggested that the flow of electrons through the system of carrier molecules drives positively charged hydrogen ions, or protons, across the membranes of chloroplasts, mitochondria and bacterial cells. As a result an electrochemical proton gradient is created across the membrane....
