3, record 1, French, - nanotube%20de%20carbone%20de%20type%20%C2%ABpeapod%C2%BB

In scanning electron microscopy(SEM), a fine probe of electrons with energies typically up to 40 keV [kiloelectron volts] is focused on a specimen, and scanned along a pattern of parallel lines. Various signals are generated as a result of the impact of the incident electrons, which are collected to form an image or to analyse the sample surface. These are mainly secondary electrons, with energies of a few tens of eV [electron volts], high-energy electrons backscattered from the primary beam and characteristic X-rays. 5, record 8, English, - scanning%20electron%20microscopy

5, record 10, French, - microscopie%20%C3%A9lectronique%20%C3%A0%20transmission

Scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM) combines the principles of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and can be performed on either type of instrument. Like TEM [transmission electron microscopy], STEM requires very thin samples and looks primarily at beam electrons transmitted by the sample. One of its principal advantages over TEM is in enabling the use of other signals that cannot be spatially correlated in TEM, including secondary electrons, scattered beam electrons, characteristic X-rays, and electron energy loss. Like SEM [scanning electron microscopy], the STEM technique scans a very finely focused beam of electrons across the sample in a raster pattern. Interactions between the beam electrons and sample atoms generate a serial signal stream, which is correlated with beam position to build a virtual image in which the signal level at any location in the sample is represented by the gray level at the corresponding location in the image. Its primary advantage over conventional SEM imaging is the improvement in spatial resolution. 3, record 11, English, - scanning%20transmission%20electron%20microscopy

Single Particle Analysis is a group of related computerized image processing techniques used to analyze images from transmission electron microscopy(TEM). These methods were developed to improve and extend the information obtainable from TEM images of particulate samples, typically proteins or other large biological entities such as viruses. Individual images of stained or unstained particles are very noisy, and so hard to interpret. Combining several digitized images of similar particles together gives an image with stronger and more easily interpretable features. An extension of this technique uses single particle methods to build up a three dimensional reconstruction of the particle. 1, record 12, English, - single%20particle%20analysis

Electron beam lithography requires a flat sample close to the objective lens, making secondary electron imaging difficult with an ordinary Everhart-Thornley detector (a scintillator-photomultiplier in the chamber). A few high end SEMs are equipped with a detector above the objective lens or can be equipped with a microchannel plate on the pole-piece. These types of detectors are a great advantage for lithography since they alloy the operator to decrease the working distance, and thus the spot size, while keeping the sample flat and in focus. 3, record 15, English, - Everhart%2DThornley%20detector

2, record 17, French, - microscopie%20%C3%A9lectronique

Amyloidosis is not one clinical entity but a group of diverse structurally driven protein deposition diseases. They are similar in that protein deposition occurs extracellularly and these deposits stain eosinophilic using standard tissue histologic stains, bind Congo red dye, and emit an apple-green birefringence using polarized light microscopy; exhibit metachromasia with crystal violet; and have an array of 75-to 100-Å nonbranching fibrils by electron microscopy and a twisted b-pleated sheet antiparallel configuration by x-ray crystallography. They differ, however, in the biochemical nature of the proteinaceous deposits, the "etiology" of the associated diseases(neoplastic, inflammatory, degenerative, hereditary), the tropism of protein deposition, and the spectrum of disease manifestations. 1, record 24, English, - amyloidosis

1, record 25, French, - %C3%A9chantillonnage%20par%20aspiration

The Positron Microscope was designed and built to be a hybrid instrument capable of performing several types of positrons and electron microscopy. For both electrons and positrons the microscope can be run in one of two modes : magnifying mode in which particles leaving the target are focussed onto a CEMA plate assembly to form a magnified image and scanning mode in which the amplitude of a signal is recorded as a function of the position(and possibly energy) of the incident beam. As an electron microscope the instrument will be able to operate in both magnifying and scanning(SEM) modes. As a positron microscope, however, source considerations will limit its immediate use to magnifying mode, i. e. positron reemission microscopy. 2, record 38, English, - positron%20microscope

Transient liquid phase(TLP) bonding is a joining process in which a liquid-forming interlayer is placed between the substrates to be joined. At the bonding temperature, the interlayer initially liquates. Subsequently, interdiffusion between the liquid interlayer and the adjacent substrates results in a change in the overall composition of the joint, such that isothermal resolidification of the joint takes place. Standard models of the TLP process assume the sequential occurrence of discrete dissolution, isothermal solidification, and homogenization processes. This study uses edge-on transmission electron microscopy investigations to challenge the general applicability of such standard models to the TLP bonding of a variety of systems involving the B2 type intermetallic compound NiAl as a substrate material. 2, record 39, English, - transient%20liquid%20phase%20bonding

Using chromatofocusing analysis, physiological differences between mature and immature flower buds were clarified with respect to their proteinaceous components in pistils. There were differences between mature and immature flower buds in soluble proteins, glycoproteins and peroxidase isozymes in stigmas, styles and ovaries. No differences in esterase and alkaline phosphatase isozymes were observed between the 2 kinds of flower buds, Scanning electron microscopy showed that stigma exudate of immature flower buds was less abundant than that of mature ones. 2, record 51, English, - chromatofocusing
