Record 1 2014-12-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Nervous System
  • Biotechnology
CONT

Researchers in the field of connectomics endeavor to analyze the complex synaptic network formed by the billions of interconnected neurons. By thinly slicing neural tissue and imaging each section with a scanning electron microscope at high resolution, fine structural details can be visualized. Careful delineation of each neuron in the 3-D volume allows for the high-resolution mapping of all connections made by each cell, providing a detailed wiring diagram of the brain : the connectome.

CONT

The experiments on electron irradiation of yttrium-stabilized zirconium oxide samples show the formation of strong elastic fields near interstitial dislocation loops. The fields increase with an increase in the loop radius and, when the loop radius reaches a certain critical value, the loops became unstable due to the beginning of plastic deformation and the formation of a dislocation network.

There is remarkable agreement between the number of such variations, their temporal variability and duration in the coronal hole and ’quiet’ Sun datasets, consistent with an earlier bright point study. There appears to be evidence of super-granular cells, with the increase in electron density occurring along the network boundaries.

CONT

Super-Granulation Cells. ... The boundaries between super-granule cells can be seen by emission in the chromosphere known as the chromospheric network and contain concentrations of magnetic flux tubes.
