Opening: Covers the initial treatments given to raw cotton: the separation and opening up of the cotton to remove compression because of bailing and shipping. Heavier impurities are also removed from the stock. The bale breaker and various picker machines perform the work. The action of opening machines may be revolving and tumbling, beating, air draft, and suction. Opening is concluded when the cotton lap is made ready for actual carding.

The Rocket Assembly/Checkout Facility... The facility consists of six contiguous laboratory modules subdivided into a storage area, a gray room area, and a clean room. As soon as work is started on a cut or fill section, centerline stakes may be destroyed by equipment and many of the slope stakes will be removed. In order to eliminate resurveying of portions of the road to relocate these stakes, offset stakes are placed beyond the limits of construction and are used to relocate the original stakes. Offset stakes are set on a line at right angles to the centerline of the facility. From these, the slope/stakes can easily be located. After relocating a slope stake, the centerline stake can be relocated by measuring toward the centerline of the road the horizontal distance indicated on the slope stake and placing the new centerline stake there; Placement and marking. An offset stake will contain all the info given on the original slope stake plus the horizontal distance from the original slope stake to the offset stake. This offset distance is marked on the front of the stake and is circled to indicate that it is an offset reference. If the off-set stake is at a different elevation than the slope stake, then the cut or fill value will be increased or decreased by the difference in elevation. An offset stake placed a horizontal distance of 6 M and 0. 3 M above the right slope stake mentioned above would be placed and marked....

Vertical case loaders. This method of case loading is used primarily in the beverage, glass, can, and plastic container industries, where fragile or irregular-shaped containers require some special packing considerations. As with the horizontal case packers, the product is delivered to the machine infeed conveyor from upstream filling equipment to the accumulator section.... When all lanes are filled in the accumulator area, a formed corrugated case is positioned underneath the loading mechanism ready for depositing. At that point, retractable shifter plates in the accumulator area move out allowing the containers to drop vertically through fingers into the cells of the case...

Within the Transportation Department, a section whose primary function is the administration of the car hire account. The car hire account includes the payment(a) of all car hire earned including reclaims and incentive car hire to foreign roads for the use of their equipment operating on line;(b) of all private car mileage earned to car owners for covered hoppers, refrigerator cars, tank cars(including the maintenance of the equalization account), etc. ;(c) of rental charges on all the equipment leased on a long or short term basis. The radio rack cooling fan is installed in the forward end of the left utility tunnel, in a section of ducting that bypasses the radio rack cooling overboard exhaust ducting.... The fan is used to create a flow of cooling air through the electrical and electronic equipment installations when the airplane is on the ground. The fan is also used to direct radio rack cooling exhaust air beneath the forward lower cargo compartment floor, to maintain temperature above freezing in the cargo compartment. The fan is an axial-flow type powered by a 115-volt, 400-cycle, 3-phase electric motor.

During normal operation, airflow is produced by a radio rack blower, located in the air conditioning compartment below the radio rack. The blower is a single stage axial flow fan, driven by a three phase 200 volt electrical motor, powered by No. 1 AC bus.
