The ecoABC Initiative is a federal $200 million four-year program ending on March 31, 2011 that provides repayable contributions for the construction or expansion of transportation biofuel production facilities. Funding is conditional upon agricultural producer investment in the biofuel projects, and the use of agricultural feedstock to produce the biofuel. The ecoABC Initiative is delivered nationally by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. It is designed to provide an opportunity for agricultural producers to diversify their economic base and participate in the biofuels industry through equity investment/ownership in biofuels production facilities. L'Initiative pour un investissement écoagricole dans les biocarburants est un programme fédéral pluriannuel de 200 millions de dollars qui prendra fin le 31 mars 2011 et qui accorde des contributions remboursables pour la construction ou l'agrandissement d'installations de production de biocarburants de transport. Annual data for 637 manufacturing firms were used to show how asymmetric information in capital markets affects the financing of investment. The data, obtained from the Value Line Data Base for 1975-1985, were adjusted to real terms by dividing by the relevant price deflators. The estimated equity betas from the database were used to implement the capital asset pricing model(CAPM) utilized in the study.
