... dive flaps or dive brakes ... serve to slow an aircraft in flight. These brakes are used when descending at a steep angle or when approaching the runway for a landing. The brakes themselves are manufactured in many shapes, and their location depends on the design of the aircraft and the purpose of the brakes. The brake panels may be located on certain parts of the fuselage or on the wing surfaces. Brakes on the fuselage are small panels that can be extended into the smooth airflow to create turbulence and drag. Wing-type brakes may be multiple-finger channels extending above and below the wing surfaces to break up smooth airflow. Usually speed brakes are controlled by electrical switches and actuated by hydraulic pressure. 6, record 4, English, - dive%20brake

The Fowler flap and others with similar operation are designed to increase substantially the wing area as the flap is extended. When retracted, the flap forms the trailing edge of the wing. As this type of flap is extended, it is moved rearward, often by means of a worm gear, and is supported in the correct position by means of curved tracks. The effect of the Fowler flap, when extended, is to greatly reduce the stalling speed of the aircraft by the increase in wing area and change in wing camber. 4, record 6, English, - Fowler%20flap

The use of flaps located on the trailing edge of an airplane wing to vary wing lift characteristics during various flight phases is well known. In the so-called single slotted flap arrangement, a wing flap is extended relative to the stationary wing of the aircraft so that a spanwise slot is formed between the trailing edge of the wing and the leading edge of the flap. This slot directs airflow from below the wing and the flap for subsequent discharge across the upper surface of the flap in the direction of and substantially parallel to the air normally flowing over the upper surface of the flap. 2, record 8, English, - single%20slotted%20flap
