On the front of the [machine] needle, you’ll see the point of the needle that pierces the fabric. Above that is the eye which the top thread runs through, and the groove which runs all along the shaft of the needle. This groove allows the thread to be nestled inside, protecting it as the needle runs through the material and keeping it out of the way so it can glide through the material without protruding, thus creating smooth and even stitches. 2, record 1, English, - needle%20groove

3, record 3, French, - aiguille%20de%20Reverdin

The hydraulic needle effect is an important factor to consider when employing OC [oleoresin capsicum]. This is the consequence of the OC particulates penetrating the soft tissue of the eye. This is due to the correlation between the distance and the amount of pressure(size of the canister) in which it is delivered. Concerns have been raised about the possibility of soft tissue injury, prolonged irritation or possibly infection. Because of the possibility of the hydraulic needle effect, minimum safe distances have been established for each delivery system. 2, record 4, English, - hydraulic%20needle%20effect

1, record 4, French, - effet%20d%27aiguille%20hydraulique

Venetian needle-point lace, having delicate and full designs of flowers, foliage, and scrolls connected by brides, padded buttonholed edges, and string cordonnet. 1, record 5, English, - rose%20point%20lace
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
This type of lace is made with a needle. It is considered to be the most delicate and precious of all laces. The pattern is first designed on paper, often reinforced with a piece of tissue, on which the design is realized. The design usually represents a rose or some other flower. To start, the lacemaker elaborates the flower's outline with a thicker thread, so to add relief to the work. The next stage is to fill in the interior of the flower design with much finer thread and a variety of different stitches. A fine handkerchief medallion takes three days’ work. To produce larger pieces, all the medallions are sewn together with a thread so fine that it can only be detected by the eye of an expert. 2, record 5, English, - rose%20point%20lace

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
1, record 5, French, - dentelle%20point%20de%20rose
