The out of battery firing is one of the worst possible catastrophic failures that can happen with a firearm. It occurs when a cartridge is, for whatever reason, not completely locked in the chamber of the weapon when it goes off. An out of battery firing can completely destroy a weapon and cause fragments to fly off and injure nearby shooters, and therefore manufacturers take great pains to incorporate mechanical safeties that prevent them. 2, record 3, English, - out%2Dof%2Dbattery%20firing

Bosik Consultants Limited operates the National Research Council’s Flight Impact Simulator Facility in Ottawa, ON. The facility houses a large pneumatic cannon (10-inch barrel diameter, measuring approximately 75 feet in length) employed to propel birds to their targets in order to simulate bird strikes with aircraft components. Aircraft components typically impacted include windshields, wings and empennage leading edges. 4, record 6, English, - flight%20impact%20simulator
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 2 CONT
NRC' s [National Research Council of Canada] flight impact simulators or bird guns have three parts : a storage reservoir(tank at the back) pressurized to the test pressure; a step chamber(half of the reservoir's pressure) ;and a barrel with sabot arrestor. The sabot, which holds the projectile, must withstand the launch, protect the projectile and crush the muzzle arrestor so that nothing but the projectile continues on to the target. Adjusting the thickness of the sabot lining helps various sizes of projectiles to fit in the barrel. The firing mechanism uses a double diaphragm method. Each diaphragm is made of very thin plastic material(Mylar). 2, record 6, English, - flight%20impact%20simulator

Return Flow Mechanical Atomizing Oil Burners. This [commercial-industrial oil] burner is a modification of a mechanical atomizing burner; atomization is accomplished by oil pressure alone.... The burner was developed for use in large installations such as on shipboard and in electric generating stations.... It is also used for firing large hot water boilers compressed air is too expensive for atomizing oil in large burners.... Wide range is accomplished by use of a return-flow nozzle which has a swirl chamber just ahead of the orifice or sprayer plate. Good atomization is attained by maintaining a high rate of oil flow and high pressure drop through the swirl chamber. The excess oil above the load demand is returned from the swirl chamber to the oil storage tank or to the oil pump suction. Control of burning rate is accomplished by varying the oil pressure in both the oil inlet and the oil return lines. 1, record 26, English, - return%20flow%20mechanical%20atomizing%20oil%20burner

Oil furnaces. Indoor oil furnaces... are available in upflow, downflow, horizontal and low-boy configurations for ducted systems. They are also available as floor furnaces, wall furnaces, and free standing space heaters. Oil-fired outdoor furnaces and combination units are rare.... The ducted system, oil-fired, forced air furnaces are usually equipped with pressure-atomizing burners. The pump pressure and the orifice size of the injection nozzle regulate the firing rate of the furnace. Electric ignition is used to ignite the burners.... The combustion chamber and heat exchanger of oil-fired furnaces are normally formed as a common single chamber. It is formed from heavy gage steel into a welded assembly. The hot flue products flow through the inside of the heat exchanger into the chimney. The conditioned air flows over the outside of the heat exchanger and into the air supply plenum. 1, record 27, English, - oil%20furnace

5, record 27, French, - g%C3%A9n%C3%A9rateur%20%C3%A0%20mazout
