Sustainable eating is about choosing foods that are healthful to our environment and our bodies. According to the 2019 EAT-Lancet Commission on healthy diets from sustainable food systems, a global shift toward more plant-based foods would help feed the world's growing population a nutritious and sustainable diet. This plant-based eating style includes more legumes(beans, peas, lentils, peanuts), whole grains, vegetables, fruits and nuts, and [fewer] animal-based foods, especially red meat and processed meat. L'écoresponsabilité appliquée à l'alimentation implique la minimisation des impacts environnementaux des aliments tout en maximisant les impacts sociaux positifs. Established in 1932, the Canadian Cattlemen's Association is the only national association representing the interests of Canada's 90, 000 beef producers. The Canadian Cattlemen's Association provides the leadership and unity necessary to speak as one voice for the beef industry. This includes assisting in its development, adaptation to new ideas and technologies, and in its prosperity. The Canadian Cattlemen's Association is structured to represent every phase of the production system; the purebred, cow/calf, backgrounding and feedlot sectors. The Canadian Cattlemen's Association is involved in a wide range of issues that are of concern to Canadian beef producers. These include trade, animal health, environment and animal care, fiscal and monetary policy, and grading/inspection, to name just a few. In addition the Canadian Cattlemen's Association works closely with other sectors of the agriculture and food industries on matters of mutual concern. 3, record 13, English, - Canadian%20Cattle%20Association

High aspect ratio, or fiber-shaped, nanoparticles (HARNs), represent a growth area in nanotechnology as their useful properties become more apparent. Carbon nanotubes, the best known and studied of the HARNs, are handled on an increasingly large scale, with subsequent potential for human inhalation exposure. Their resemblance to asbestos fibers precipitated fears that they might show the same type of pathology as that caused by asbestos and there is emerging evidence to support this possibility. The large number of other HARNs, including nanorods, nanowires and other nanofibers, require similar toxicological scrutiny. In this article, we describe the unusual hazard associated with fibers, with special reference to asbestos, and address the features of fibers that dictate their pathogenicity as developed in the fiber pathogenicity paradigm. This paradigm is a robust structure-toxicity model that identifies thin, long, biopersistent fibers as the effective dose for fiber-type pathogenic effects. It is likely that HARNs will in general conform to the paradigm and such an understanding of the features that make fibers pathogenic should enable us to design safer HARNs. 3, record 15, English, - high%20aspect%20ratio%20nanoparticle

(Nanowerk News) A UK consortium of scientists, led by the Institute of Occupational Medicine, Edinburgh, has published a key report examining whether high aspect ratio nanoparticles(HARN) should raise the same concerns as asbestos fibres. HARN includes materials such as carbon nanotubes(CNT) and metal nanowires. The review, which was published by DEFRA [Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs] this week, identified many similarities between HARN and asbestos with regard to their physico-chemical properties and toxicological effects, and it concluded that there is sufficient evidence to suggest that HARN, which have the same characteristics(diameter, length and biopersitance) as pathogenic fibres such as asbestos, are likely to have similar pathology. 4, record 15, English, - high%20aspect%20ratio%20nanoparticle

In the USA, the raising of food animals in controlled climate facilities has progressed rapidly since the 1980s. It was not uncommon for livestock and poultry producers to rear food animals in outdoor lots or partially contained facilities with minimal modification to the thermal environment. 1, record 37, French, - s%C3%A9curit%C3%A9%20alimentaire%20et%20nutritionnelle

The economy exists entirely within society, because all parts of the human economy require interaction among people. However, society is much more than just the economy. Friends and families, music and art, religion and ethics are important elements of society, but are not primarily based on exchanging goods and services. Society, in turn, exists entirely within the environment. Our basic requirements--air, food and water--come from the environment, as do the energy and raw materials for housing, transportation and the products we depend on. Finally, the environment surrounds society. At an earlier point in human history, the environment largely determined the shape of society. Today the opposite is true : human activity is reshaping the environment at an ever-increasing rate. The parts of the environment unaffected by human activity are getting smaller all the time. 2, record 52, English, - human%20economy

Founded in 1945 by the late Dr Lotta Hitschmanova, USC' s early mandate was to undertake relief and reconstruction activities in war-ravaged countries in Europe. Over the years USC' s work has evolved to focus almost entirely on long-term, sustainable development programs. USC Canada currently supports programs in Nepal, Indonesia/East Timor, Bangladesh, Mali and Lesotho. USC projects are centred around a number of important development issues including food security, environment, community development, income generation for women and training and education. 1, record 74, English, - Unitarian%20Service%20Committee%20of%20Canada

The Pesticide Risk Reduction Program highlights priorities for pest management, including biological controls, natural products, and low-risk minor use pesticides. This program reflects the goals of the APF(Agricultural Policy Framework)-to position Canada as the world leader in environmentally responsible production while improving air, water, and soil quality, and conserving biodiversity. The Pesticide Risk Reduction Program will help reduce the risks to the environment from pesticides uses in agriculture, contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment, and result in safer food for consumers by focussing on : developing and implementing strategies to reduce pesticide risks : conducting research into improving methods for pest control; developing alternative approaches to pest management, such as integrated pest management, biological control methods, and bio-pesticides; and increasing the adoption of reduced-risk technologies by producers. 1, record 84, English, - Pesticide%20Risk%20Reduction%20Program

The Insect Habitat (IH) was designed to support a variety of insect species. However, during the initial flight increments, it will be dedicated to experiments using Drosophila melanogaster, or fruit flies. The IH will support single-and multi-generation experiments that have approximate external dimensions of 13. 5 cm(L) x 2. 25 cm(D) x 7. 0 cm(H) each. The flies will live in two chevron-shaped container elements. These containers can be divided into two parts using the internal food cylinders; this yields two 55 ml containers that can support up to 100 Drosophila through to egg-laying. Alternatively, the containers can be left undivided, which yields a single 110 ml volume that supports up to 200 Drosophila.... The two insect containers reside in the science element portion of the IH. The science element consists of two environmentally controlled "drawers. "Each drawer contains a centrifuge that can provide up to 2G. Each centrifuge will hold six insect containers. Typically, one drawer will have a microgravity environment and the other drawer will have a defined gravity environment, although the precise gravity regimen for each centrifuge can be determined by the researcher. 2, record 92, English, - insect%20habitat

In 1927 Birge and Juday made a separation between autotrophic and allotrophic lakes. They argued that autotrophic lakes had an internal source of organic matter, while allotrophic lakes received most of the organic substrate from terrestrial sources in the lake catchment.... In the allotrophic lakes most of the organic carbon that flows through the food chain comes from the terrestrial environment in the lake drainage area-usually termed allochthonous input. 3, record 98, English, - allotrophic
