Every few years we have what are known as "irruption" years. These are years when finches and other species that generally winter in the boreal forest in Canada and the far north, move south to the joy and amazement of bird enthusiasts.... An irruption occurs when large numbers of birds move beyond their typical range, usually in response to low food supplies. 1, record 1, English, - irruption%20year

Motor nerves in the peripheral nervous system carry information from the brain to the body. Scientists came up with the name "motor" because the first motor nerves studied were those that help with muscle movement, or what scientists call motor function. It was later discovered that motor nerves have other purposes in addition to making muscles move. They also send messages from the brain and the spinal cord to body organs. For example, motor nerves help the process of digestion by stimulating cells in the stomach to break down food chemically. 2, record 3, English, - motor%20nerve

Sponge Spicule.-... Sponges do not have definite organs to carry out their functions and generally do not move from place to place, which resulted in the early mistaken belief that they were plants rather than animals. Possessing a simple cellular anatomy, sponges are composed of an outer layer of protective surface cells and an inner layer of flagellated cells that help move food and water through its inner cavities. A gelatinous substance, through which amoeboid cells move and carry out a variety of functions, is located between the two layers. The cells aid digestion, transport of nutrients, reproduction, and produce the structures that compose the skeleton of the sponge. The structures, known as spicules, give the sponge its shape and remain intact even after the animal has died. 2, record 6, English, - sponge%20spicule

There are many different species of animal fouling, but all have the same reproductive technique. Millions of juvenile larvae are released into the water. An International Development Research Centre(IRDC) Project. The frugal use of expensive water trucked in from distant wells was a way of life in the parched desert village of Chungungo, Chile — located in one of the driest parts of the world. In addition to being costly, the water was often contaminated, contributing to poor sanitation, ill health, and low food production. Today, a simple technology collects water from fog, supplying villagers with two or three times more water than they once used and at a lower cost. What makes this possible is the persistent, extensive cloud cover(camanchacas) along the coast of Chile, which creates continual fog as the prevailing winds move inland across the mountains. 1, record 9, English, - Tapping%20Into%20Fog

1, record 9, French, - Capteurs%20de%20brouillard
