The Food For Peace Conference was held June 24 – 26, 2002 at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, Virginia. 216 participants attended the three-day conference, representing an array of stakeholders :Food Aid Managers; FFP/Washington and overseas mission USAID Staff; Title II PVOs and NGOs; commodity and industry groups; other government agencies; and representatives of International Organizations. Lauren Landis, the Director of the Food For Peace Office, led the conference.

In the work to be described in this paper, the effect of extrusion on the calories density of corn-soy blend gruels was investigated. Comparisons are made between corn-soy milk(CSM) and instant corn-soy milk(ICSM) as made commercially and distributed in the US Food for Peace Program.

To help allergic consumers buy food with complete peace of mind, the AQAA [Association québecoise des allergies alimentaires] has developed and manages a program that aims at establishing uniformity in allergen control in food products : the Certification Program for Optimal Control of Allergens in Processed Food, for which the mark of conformity is CAC-Certified Allergen Control.

The QFAA [Quebec Food Allergy Association] developed the CAC [Certified Allergen Control] program’s specifications, which define all the requirements to which companies must comply in order to have their products certified. The QFAA also created a logo that serves as a Certified Allergen Control (CAC) mark of conformity.

The aim of this program of the Canadian Committee for the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations is to find someone who has contributed to world understanding and to relate their story. This person could be someone who has has worked on a project in Canada which has contributed to UN issues on global understanding, for example, cleaned up the environment, participated in a peace march, taken action against racism, organized a clothing/food drive, spoken on conflict resolution and non-violence, promoted health and discouraged use of drugs and alcohol. UN issues include peace, security, education, health, poverty, environment, and manymore. Or it could be someone who has worked on an international cause, either overseas or in Canada(for example, a missionary, a volunteer for CUSO or on an international agriculture project; or has worked for the United Nations(for example, as a peacekeeper, administrator or diplomat).
