Food Safety Initiative. All food manufacturers are subject to intensive food safety rules, regulations and requirements. So are suppliers, packagers, storage providers and logistics partners. Essentially, if your company produces or touches food products at almost any stage, you face oversight by multiple state, federal and international food safety organizations, in addition to the demands from your customers and consumers.

L'Initiative d'assurance de la salubrité des aliments est le troisième volet du PCSQA. Elle favorise les projets régionaux et provinciaux et est fondée sur la mise au point de systèmes. Annoncé en décembre 2003, ce volet permet à l'industrie, grâce aux fonds accordés, de mettre au point des systèmes d'assurance de la salubrité et de la qualité des aliments, ainsi que des systèmes de traçabilité. Conformément aux accords de mise en oeuvre du CSA, la Colombie-Britannique, l'Alberta, le Manitoba, l'Ontario et la Nouvelle-Écosse ont alloué une partie du financement fédéral à l'initiative.

As part of the Beyond the Border(BtB) Action Plan, USDA's [United States Department of Agriculture] Food Safety and Inspection Service(FSIS) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA) are working jointly to implement a pre-clearance initiative. This initiative consists of a pilot project that will consider alternative methods for reviewing import documents prior to the shipment's arrival at the U. S. border and alternative methods for release of shipments that are destined for further processing at an FSIS official establishment.

Agricultural Policy Framework(APF)... : Federal-provincial/territorial initiative announced in 2001, the purpose of which is to develop pan-Canadian solutions to agricultural problems. Has five elements : business risk management; food safety and quality; science and innovation; environment; renewal. A framework agreement setting APF rules and objectives was signed by the provinces in 2003. An implementation agreement was reached for the period from 1 April 2004 to 31 March 2008.
