CONT

Food shortage occurs when food supplies within a bounded region do not provide the energy and nutrients needed by that region's population. Food shortage is most easily conceptualized as a production problem-not enough food is grown to meet regional needs-but constraints on importation as well as storage can also cause or contribute to food shortage.

CONT

Takeout containers, foam trays or any plastic storage or grocery bags not specifically designed for microwave use can melt and leach into food. So use plastic containers only if they are explicitly labeled microwave-safe. It's best to look for a label on paper plates, too. Thick, nondecorative glass, wax paper, parchment paper and white(undyed) paper towels are all fine in the microwave.

DEF

Deterioration in the color, flavor, odor, or consistency of a food product.

CONT

Any perceivable change undergone by a food, through any cause, that renders it unwholesome or unacceptable for use. Spoilage is usually the result of enzyme or microbial action resulting, for example, in lipolytic rancidity, putrefaction, fermentation, or mould growth; but food can also spoil by other means, for example overlong storage, non-enzymic browning, or exposure to air or light. In practice the term is most frequently applied to categorising such deteriorative changes(other than food infection or intoxication) when caused by microorganisms.

DEF

CONT

A relatively new concept in the word of fruit production is known as IFP or Integrated Fruit Production. At the heart of this program is integrated pest management. However, IFP goes beyond that in that it looks at the whole orchard system from the planting of trees through to storage and packing of the harvested fruit. In IFP, the whole fruit growing system is considered. Cultural practices, environmental management, safety, record keeping and education are all a part of integrated fruit production. As a result of practicing IFP, the following goals can be achieved : production of optimum yields of quality fruit; achievement of a standard of sustainable food production; production of a safe, high quality food product for consumers.
