On appelle équilibre hydrostatique l'équilibre entre la composante verticale de la force du gradient de pression et la force d'attraction due à la gravité. The Dimension 3000 Scanning Probe Microscope(SPM) encompasses several techniques for studying surface properties of materials at the atomic to micron scale. It measures surface structure and produces images with three-dimensional information. It measures surface roughness and maps the surface based on atomic force, friction, magnetic field, relative stiffness, or electric field gradient. Typical applications : 1. Studying surface of optical components(especially mirrors) [;] 2. Mapping of magnetic properties of tapes[;] 3. Measuring surface pit depth and width. Mode of operation : An atomically sharp tip, held at the end of a cantilever, is scanned in a regular pattern across a surface. As the tip probes the surface, the interaction between the surface and tip is measured using a laser-based system. 3, record 2, English, - scanning%20probe%20microscope

A plume is a local fluctuation in the fluid temperature... which detaches itself at more or less regular intervals from the boundaries responsible for the temperature gradient in the fluid. Plumes exist mainly in high Prandtl number fluids, for the following reason. For a fluid to have a high Prandtl number means that its kinematic viscosity is much greater than its thermal diffusivity. The effectiveness of thermal diffusion is therefore low, permitting high gradients of temperature and also of density to exist for a long time before relaxing. This causes large fluctuations in the Archimedean force which drives the plumes. 3, record 11, English, - plume
