Record 2 2012-03-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radiography (Medicine)
  • Musculoskeletal System
DEF

Fracture of the distal radius associated with a fracture of the ulnar styloid and dorsal subluxation of the distal ulna.

OBS

This resembles closely what we now call a Colles’ fracture of the wrist. In Colles’ original description, however, he did not describe a fracture of the ulnar styloid although presently fractures of the distal radius, with or without fracture of the ulnar styloid, bear his name. [From MESRO, 1984, vol. 2, p. 118 and SFRAC, 1972, p. 316. ]

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medical and Surgical Equipment
  • Orthopedic Surgery
CONT

Based on the preoperative measurements, a Steinman pin is driven vertically into the shaft of the radius 4 cm proximal to the osteotomy site. The osteotomy is usually placed at the original site of the fracture or approximately 2 cm proximal to the joint surface. A second Steinman pin is inserted into the distal part of the radius just proximal to the articular surface to create an angle with the perpendicular pin that is equivalent to the premeasured deformity in the sagittal plane. ]

DEF

A comminuted fracture of the elbow sustained by severe direct trauma to the elbow protruding from the window of an automobile when the upper extremity is resting on the window ledge. The result is a markedly comminuted fracture of the distal humerus. In addition, the fracture may involve the shaft of the humerus, the olecranon, the shaft of the ulna, and extend to include the head of the radius and coronoid process.

Il en résulte une fracture comminutive de la portion distale de l'humérus pouvant impliquer la diaphyse humérale, l'olécrane, la diaphyse cubitale et même la tête radiale et l'apophyse coronoïde.
