Some advanced methods are also used to harness geothermal energy. Enhanced geothermal systems(EGS) is one such method. An EGS plant... consists of both aboveground and subsurface infrastructure. Developing an EGS reservoir involves injecting cold fracturing fluid deep underground to open up preexisting cracks or develop new ones... Then, the geothermal energy is extracted by rerouting a working fluid. By pumping it through the geothermal reservoir's fractured network, the fluid can be heated to a higher temperature before being withdrawn from yet another well... 3, record 1, English, - enhanced%20geothermal%20system%20power%20plant

Ice screws... Push the ice screw into the ice while twisting the hanger by hand in a clockwise direction to get it started. Placing the ice screw at waist level allows you to push harder and turn the screw with less effort. Continue to turn the ice screw handle by hand until the hanger nearly contacts the ice surface. Chip away any fractured ice using your ice axe, then turn the ice screw handle the remainder of the way. Align the hanger so that it hangs downward—in the direction of pull.... When possible, choose an ice screw length that will not bottom out on rock underneath the ice. 1, record 20, Spanish, - falta%20de%20uni%C3%B3n%20de%20fractura

... When wheat is milled into flour, starch granules are subjected to physical damage and granules may be fractured, cracked, chopped or otherwise changed. As a result, normal flours may contain varying amounts of starch granules damaged to varying degrees in addition to intact starch granules. Hard wheat flours usually have much higher starch damage values than soft wheat flours. Starch granules in soft wheat endosperm are loosely bound in the kernel and easily released in milling; on the other hand, starch granules in hard wheat endosperm are firmly bound in a much stronger protein matrix and therefore more liable to damage when endosperm fragments are reduced during milling. 1, record 23, English, - hard%20wheat%20flour

2, record 23, French, - farine%20de%20bl%C3%A9%20de%20force

Paul of Aegina described one of their uses :"If the bone is strong it is first to be perforated with the drills called abaptista and the fractured bone is to be removed in fragments, with the fingers if possible, if not, with a tooth forceps or bone forceps. "Soranus of Ephesus, who lived in the reign of Trajan(A. D. 97-118) used bone forceps to remove pieces of the skull after impaction of the foetal cranium. Bone forceps may also have been used for extraction of arrow or lance heads from wounds; the grips on the tips of the forceps would make grasping such objects easier. 3, record 31, English, - bone%20forceps

Thermally tempered glass is glass that is strengthened by heat treatment. Relatively rapid cooling of the exterior surfaces of the glass results in residual compressive stresses at the glass surfaces. The case depth for thermally tempered glass is about 20 percent of the glass thickness. Thus, thermally tempered glass is fairly resistant to scratches and other minor surface damage. The amount of temper is defined by the magnitude of the residual compressive stress at the surface of the glass. Fully tempered glass has residual surface compressive stresses that exceed 13, 000 psi and are often as high as 25, 000 to 30, 000 psi. Fully tempered glass breaks into very small pieces when fractured. For transit applications thermally tempered glass is used to reduce the likelihood of lacerations whenever single-ply glass is required. 6, record 32, English, - thermal%20tempered%20glass

Lateral permeability contrast can be particularly important in fractured formations, where effective permeability in the direction of the fractures may be many times greater than the matrix permeability. If the permeability in one direction is significantly more than in the other, the flow pattern may more closely approximate linear flow than radial flow. This can be detected from well-test data. Likewise, laminations in most clastic formations cause the permeability normal to the bedding plane to be less than the lateral permeability parallel to bedding. The definition of rock from an engineering or functional viewpoint is complicated by structures and defects. A rock that is hard but fractured may be easier to excavate than a softer but more coherent material. An imprecise term used to denote materials that are more coherent than soils, yet are less coherent than many rocks. Two empirical definitions are that a soft rock does not need to be excavated by blasting, and that a soft rock has an unconfined compressive strength of between 400 and 1000 kN/m². It may be noted that to the geologist all sedimentary rocks are termed soft rocks, which may lead to confusion in an engineering context, since many sedimentary rocks cannot be excavated mechanically. 3, record 47, English, - soft%20rock
