FRACTURED SHALE [4 records]

Record 1 2021-07-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Deposits
  • Bitumen and Bituminous Shales
DEF

[A shale formation] containing significant accumulations of natural gas ...

CONT

Shale-gas resource plays may be extremely tight(low permeability) to highly fractured, with variable bulk mineralogical composition controlling the brittle versus ductile nature of the shale.

OBS

The resource is considered a resource play, [when] gas is pervasively distributed through the geologically defined play area. Thus, success at discovering the resource with a well is 100 per cent.

Key term(s)
  • shale-gas play
  • shale-gas zone

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gisements pétrolifères
  • Exploitation des schistes bitumineux
DEF

Record 2 2017-08-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil and Natural Gas Extraction
CONT

The Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources ... has been extremely active in encouraging the responsible development of [Canada’s] unconventional hydrocarbon resources, focusing on shale gas, light tight oil, gas hydrates, natural gas from coal, tight gas sands and carbonates.

CONT

... coal-bed methane, shale gas, fractured reservoirs, tight oil, oil shales, tight gas, and gas hydrates are all considered unconventional resources...

OBS

unconventional hydrocarbon resource; unconventional resource; non-conventional hydrocarbon resource; non-conventional resource: terms usually used in the plural.

Key term(s)
  • unconventional hydrocarbon resources
  • unconventional resources
  • non-conventional hydrocarbon resources
  • non-conventional resources

French

Domaine(s)
  • Extraction du pétrole et du gaz naturel
CONT

OBS

ressource en hydrocarbures non classiques; ressource d'hydrocarbures non classiques; ressource non classique; ressource en hydrocarbures non conventionnels; ressource d'hydrocarbures non conventionnels; ressource non conventionnelle : termes habituellement utilisés au pluriel.

Key term(s)
  • ressource en hydrocarbures non classiques
  • ressources d'hydrocarbures non classiques
  • ressources non classiques
  • ressources en hydrocarbures non conventionnels
  • ressources d'hydrocarbures non conventionnels
  • ressources non conventionnelles

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Extracción de petróleo y gas natural
CONT

Key term(s)
  • recursos de hidrocarburos no convencionales
  • recursos no convencionales

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil and Natural Gas Extraction
CONT

... UOG resources are those that, in their pre-development state, are trapped in rocks that cannot be produced economically without the use of well stimulation to augment reservoir quality.... coal-bed methane, shale gas, fractured reservoirs, tight oil, oil shales, tight gas, and gas hydrates are all considered unconventional resources...

Record 4 2011-10-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Bitumen and Bituminous Shales
OBS

When shale formations are [fractured], the pressure opens new pathways that may ultimately join and expand pre-existing pathways in the rock.... The more joints that open and connect, the more gas that can flow out.

OBS

The shale rock is highly fractured creating a multitude of hydrocarbon migration pathways that will allow the adsorbed gas component to travel to the wellbore. In addition, a much higher portion of the total gas in place resides within the fractures themselves.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Exploitation des schistes bitumineux
OBS
