FRAGMENTED MARKET [3 records]

Record 1 2005-01-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electronic Commerce
CONT

There are three new business-to-business market models : the aggregators, such as Chemdex, help buyers in fragmented markets select products by providing up-to-minute price and product information in a single contact point of service. Online auctioneers, such as Adauction, offer a reliable channel for sellers to dispose of perishable or surplus goods or services at the best possible prices. As lastly, there are exchangers, such as NTE, that create liquidity matching bid/ask offers and act as neutral third parties, enforcing market rules and settlements terms. Over time, these distinct models will tend to merge.

CONT

The Export Ratio, which [economist Nuala Beck] often calls the National Trade Bloc Export Ratio, measures the percentage of a company's sales outside of its usual trading bloc. In a world that has so visibly fragmented into different blocs--the North American Free Trade Area, the European Economic Community, Asia-Pacific--it's more important than ever to get a fix on how well a company is doing outside of its traditional market.
