The division of the nucleotide sequence of a nucleic acid into consecutive three-nucleotide codons.

OBS

There are three different frames(starting a codon with the first, second, or third nucleotide). Generally, only one frame encodes a polypeptide; this frame is specified by the location of the initiation codon of the polypeptide. The deletion or addition of a nucleotide throws off the frame after that point, making non-sense of the remaining code; this is called a frameshift mutation.

Le time-code longitudinal a grandement facilité le montage vidéo sur les machines professionnelles. Son usage s'est étendu à toutes les autres filières de production audiovisuelle telles que cinéma ou enregistrement son multi-pistes. [...] Malgré sa généralisation, le LTC recèle plusieurs défauts. Il ne peut pas être lu à faible vitesse de défilement de la bande. D'autre part, il est traité par des circuits indépendants de ceux de la vidéo. Il est donc facile de perdre le synchronisme image/time-code par simple déphasage des signaux. Pour pallier ces inconvénients, le signal de time-code a été intégré au signal vidéo lui-même et inscrit dans deux lignes vidéo du top de synchronisation vertical dans le haut de l'image, d'où son nom de «vertical interval time-code», ou VITC. Les 80 bits d'information sont complétés par quelques signaux de contrôle supplémentaires jusqu'à former un total de 96 bits, qui doivent être transmis dans la durée d'une ligne vidéo, ce qui conduit à un débit binaire de 2 Mbits/s. Les circuits de traitement sont beaucoup plus sophistiqués et ne se sont généralisés qu'à la fin des années 80. Le VITC présente pour sa part diverses difficultés d'exploitation, telles que l'obligation de rembobiner les cassettes avec la bande sur les têtes video, ou la gestion délicate de la continuité du time-code aux raccords de montage. Les défauts de l'un étant compensés par les avantages de l'autre, la tendance en production vidéo est de travailler simultanément avec les deux time-codes, le LTC et le VITC.

Photo-Optical Binary Code Systems: Particularly adaptable to random files, binary code systems depend on an organized code for retrieval, such as an invoice number, customer number or customer name, instead of an external index.

OBS

Photo-optical coding places descriptive data related to documents in photo-optical format on the film. The coding is placed either adjacent to the document frame or along the edge of the film.... The coding is created through a keyboard associated with a microfilm camera or by filming precoded information simultaneously with the document or by COM [computer-output microfilm] with the appropriate software. A search is conducted by keying in the codes. The film code patterns are electronically scanned, and the film stops at the image or images identified by the desired matching codes.
