The Red River style of log building construction was one of the original methods used in Canada. The logs were left rounded with notched ends. This type of construction consisted of a basic frame of grooved, vertical, squared posts, mortised and tenoned into sills at their bases or set directly into the ground(in rare, early cases), and at their tips, mortised and tenoned into squared plates. Horizontal, squared timbers were fixed between these posts, with the tenons of the horizontal timbers fitting into the vertical groove of the posts. Roof structures of varying types were built on the wall plates. Red River Frame construction allowed both flexibility and portability. Large buildings could be erected using short logs, and buildings could be easily dismantled, moved and put up elsewhere. For these reasons, Red River Frame was the predominant type of construction used in the Canadian West during the fur trade era. The Red River style of log construction has spread across North America and is currently enjoying new popularity. Red River log construction is yet another Metis contribution to the development of Canada. 2, record 7, English, - Red%20River%20frame%20construction

4, record 34, French, - rupture%20de%20pont%20thermique

... the buildings... were built from logs, using the Red River Frame construction technique. Vertical squared logs, slotted on two sides and set approximately three-metre intervals, and supported on a stone foundation, provided the building's framework. The spaces between these uprights were filled by squared, horizontal logs to the required length, tongued on both ends, and then slid down the slots to be positioned on top of the other. The Space between logs was filled or chinked with a white clay mixture. "Water closets" were the exception. In practical graphics applications, one starts with a set of vertices for the polygon in user's co-ordinates. For the seed filling algorithm to work, first the borders have to be drawn using the border colour(normally, using Bresenham), after which an internal point has to be identified and then the seed filling algorithm executed. Filling algorithms can be used to determine areas of closed polygons at the raster level in terms of pixel numbers. The polygon is filled with a unique colour and then the number of pixels are counted which have this colour value in the frame buffer, or more efficiently within the min/max box of the polygon. 1, record 43, English, - seed%20filling%20algorithm

The axle [of the gyroscope] is contained within a pivoting frame containing two or three gimbaled rings set at right angles to the axle and to each other. When the flywheel is caused to spin(by a string in a toy, or, in a navigational instrument, by electricity or air jets), it develops what is called rotational inertia. As a consequence of that inertia, a force applied to tilt the axle will lead to a counter-reaction transferred to the gimbaled rings that is determined by the amount of the tilting force. 2, record 44, English, - counter%2Dreaction%20device

1, record 44, French, - dispositif%20de%20contre%2Dr%C3%A9action

A rollermill is really four(two pair) rollermills in one frame. The top roll of a pair is carried in fixed bearings but the bottom roll is supported by pivot arms which may be adjusted to vary the gap between the rolls. Adjusting the gap gives different degrees of grinding. Two smaller diameter rolls, called feed rolls, are set above the grinding rolls. The purpose of the feed rolls is to regulate the stream of material passing to the nip of the grinding rolls. 2, record 48, French, - cadre%20de%20r%C3%A9f%C3%A9rence%20inertiel%20absolu

Mobile work platforms come in various shapes, sizes, and price categories, including lightweight, one-man push-around models; manually propelled or towable scissors-type units; and large, self-propelled booms that reach out 80 ft or more. The sliding-frame elevating platform is the simplest, most economical version of a one-man push-around towable unit. It consists of a railed platform affixed to a frame that slides up or down on a vertical mast set on a mobile base. The platform can be raised or lowered mechanically by a hand crank winch and cable suspension system. Or, the units can be powered up and down hydraulically or by compressed air. Power sources can be AC or DC electric motors or plant air. 1, record 65, English, - push%2Daround

A borehole-surveying device consisting of a gimbal-mounted open frame, rigidly enclosing a graduated circle inside of which is a gimbal-mounted compass. This assemblage, inserted in a glass tube filled with a melted gelatin mixture is placed inside a tightly sealed brass tube or clinometer. When the tube is lowered into, and suspended at a point in a borehole for a sufficient length of time to allow the gelatin to set or jell, the position of the gimbal parts becomes fixed in the solidified gelatin, thereby providing a means whereby the compass course and inclination of the borehole at a specific point may be determined. 1, record 67, English, - Carlson%20compass
