The effectiveness of existing therapies was limited by the shortness of therapeutic time window[;] that is, the time frame within which successful therapy can be initiated prior to onset of irreversible injury... For human stroke patients, accurate estimations of the therapeutic time window have not been confirmed yet.... However, the recommended practice for all clinical interventions after the onset of stroke is within 6–8 h of the injury.... The therapeutic outcome becomes weakened considerably after 12–24 h, and damage is practically irreversible after 48 h... Therefore, researches into finding new means to extend the therapeutic time window are of urgently needed. 1, record 1, English, - therapeutic%20time%20window

The Red River style of log building construction was one of the original methods used in Canada. The logs were left rounded with notched ends. This type of construction consisted of a basic frame of grooved, vertical, squared posts, mortised and tenoned into sills at their bases or set directly into the ground (in rare, early cases), and at their tips, mortised and tenoned into squared plates. Horizontal, squared timbers were fixed between these posts, with the tenons of the horizontal timbers fitting into the vertical groove of the posts. Roof structures of varying types were built on the wall plates. Red River Frame construction allowed both flexibility and portability. Large buildings could be erected using short logs, and buildings could be easily dismantled, moved and put up elsewhere. For these reasons, Red River Frame was the predominant type of construction used in the Canadian West during the fur trade era. The Red River style of log construction has spread across North America and is currently enjoying new popularity. Red River log construction is yet another Metis contribution to the development of Canada. 2, record 16, English, - Red%20River%20frame%20construction

Ecological sampling methods. If we want to know what kind of plants and animals are in a particular habitat, and how many there are of each species, it is usually impossible to go and count each and every one present.... This problem is usually solved by taking a number of samples from around the habitat, making the necessary assumption that these samples are representative of the habitat in general.... Samples are usually taken using a standard sampling unit of some kind. This ensures that all of the samples represent the same area or volume(water) of the habitat each time. The usual sampling unit is a quadrat. Quadrats normally consist of a square frame, the most frequently used size being 1m². The purpose of using a quadrat is to enable comparable samples to be obtained from areas of consistent size and shape. Rectangular quadrats and even circular quadrats have been used in some surveys. 2, record 37, English, - ecological%20sampling

The Two Frame Gyroscope. When the rotor is spinning and the spin axis is in a horizontal plane a definite resistance will be felt owing to gyroscope inertia, at the same time the spin axis will begin to precess in a vertical plane and will continue to do so with sufficient power to lift light weights until all the gyroscopic inertia disappears due to the rotor slowing and stopping. The Three Frame Gyroscope. If the base of a three framed gyroscope is held in the hand with the rotor spinning and turned about any of the three axes, the rotor will continue to point in the original direction in space.

The Centre national d’études spatiales(CNES) is developing an atomic clock of unequaled precision, which will be launched in 2003 aboard the International Space Station(ISS). The PHARAO clock(Cooled Atom In-Orbit Atomic Clock Project)... uses cooled cesium atoms in order to reach an accuracy and stability 10 to 100 times higher than any other high-performance existing calibrating clocks. The Cesium atoms are thrown on a free flight in a cavity enabling interaction with a radio-frequency field. They then transfer their intrinsic accuracy and stability qualities to the piezoelectric oscillator. The lack of gravity increases the time in which the atoms interact with the piezoelectric oscillator, which then increases the resolution and accuracy of the clock by a 10 factor. PHARAO will belong to ESA's ACES(Atomic Clock Ensemble in Space) payload within the frame of one of its ISS program. The ACES mission will be divided in two parts. The first one, which should last six months, will mostly focus on the PHARAO clock performance. The second part of the mission will last 12 months and will allow the international scientific community to use the clock for specific experiments(clocks’ synchronization, General Relativity tests, geodesy, etc.). 2, record 67, English, - ACES%20mission

Vertical squared logs, slotted on two sides and set approximately three-metre intervals, and supported on a stone foundation, provided the building’s framework. The spaces between these uprights were filled by squared, horizontal logs to the required length, tongued on both ends, and then slid down the slots to be positioned on top of the other. 2, record 70, English, - Red%20River%20frame%20house

Ross House is important because it was the first Post Office in Western Canada. ... The construction of Ross House is a prime example of a Red River frame building. ... 2, record 71, English, - Red%20River%20frame%20building

Although the redesigned station is now being built as much as possible on the ground, the entire monolithic structure cannot be lobbed into orbit in one piece. The sections must be small enough to fit inside the Space Shuttle payload bay, which limits segments to about 15 ft(4. 6 m) in diameter and 45 ft(13. 7 m) in length. By the time the space frame truss segments are ready for launch, they have been fitted with such hardware as electric lines, batteries, antennas, gyroscopes, robotic arms, solar panel assemblies, and heat radiators. The actual truss is hard to identify once all the equipment is loaded onto it; there's no wasted space. Once the segments are in space the astronauts will simply bolt them together with a few fasteners and then connect hoses, ducts, and other utilities by plugging them into ports between sections. 2, record 85, English, - truss%20segment

Different diffusion coefficients may be defined depending on the choice of the frame of reference used for the amount of species flowing through unit area in unit time and the concentration gradient of species. For systems with more than two components, the flow of any component and hence its diffusion coefficient depends on the concentration distribution of all components. The limiting differential diffusion coefficient is the value [of X] extrapolated to zero concentration of the diffusing species.
