It provides an umbrella for collaboration on the environment, especially climate change and sustainable development, through the coordination of all federal efforts with China on environmental and sustainable development issues. The United Nations University(UNU) project on "Natural Disaster Risk Management" places natural disaster management within the context of sustainable development. During the year, work was carried out to finalize a theoretical framework for the analysis of social vulnerability and its inclusion into disaster management planning. This novel concept was tested in a pilot phase and presented to scientific audiences in workshops organized in China, Fiji and Germany.
