This Standard defines the content and format for electronic files that describe the flight data stored on a Flight Data Recorder System(FDRS). At the time this standard is being written, multiple formats exist for the different manufacturers and airline configurations. The maintenance of this information in a common, standard format should facilitate and expedite deciphering the recorded flight data.
