Reeds are usually divided into two kinds, the beating, and the free reed.... Free products and dissolved petroleum components from the surface of the contaminated aquifer are captured and treated via multi-phase extraction & treatment. Bioslurping induces a horizontal vacuum gradient on the targeted monitor/recovery wells through a slurp tube which is inserted into each well. Product and groundwater are entrained in droplet form in a high velocity air stream and brought to the surface for treatment. Following air/liquid separation the liquid phase is treated by a combination of oil/water separation, air stripping, and liquid phase carbon treatment before being discharged. The off-gas is treated(if necessary) by vapour phase carbon treatment. The advantages of multi-phase extraction & treatment include : a high product to groundwater extraction ratio; aeration of the vadose zone which enhances natural biodegradation of the hydrocarbon contaminants; all treatment components may be housed in a turn-key mobile remedial unit; a simple product recovery technology which can be transferred to conventional remedial applications such as pump and treat, sparging and vapour extraction system(VES) applications. 2, record 43, French, - dose%20dans%20l%27air

In the atmosphere, trees and other grounded objects with points and protuberances may, in disturbed weather, be sources of point discharge current. Close to a pointed and grounded conductor that extends above surrounding objects, the local electric field strength may be many times greater than that existing at the same level far from the elevated conductor. When this local field reaches such a value that a free electron, finding itself acted upon by this field, can be accelerated(in one mean free path) to a sufficiently high velocity to ionize neutral air molecules, point discharge will begin. Different structures will yield point discharge under quite different gross field conditions, for geometry is critically important. Point discharge is recognized as a major process of charge transfer between electrified clouds and the earth, and is a leading item in the charge balance of the global electrical circuit. 3, record 63, English, - point%20discharge

Smoke plumes that rise through the environment due to buoyancy or momentum become diluted with environmental air, where the rate of dilution is proportional to the rise rate of the plume. The entrainment coefficient is this constant of proportionality. This concept of lateral entrainment does not work well for convective thermals in the atmospheric boundary layer. One reason is that boundary layer thermals are part of a large overturning circulation involving the whole boundary layer during statically unstable conditions of free convection, rather than being thin currents of rising smokestack air. 2, record 70, English, - entrainment%20coefficient

STEP : Satellite Test of the Equivalence Principle. Worden and Everitt have proposed to carry out an improved version of Galileo's Leaning Tower of Pisa experiment, by placing masses of different composition inside a satellite orbiting the Earth to obtain a long duration of free fall. Very high positional sensitivity can be achieved by cooling the experiment to 1. 8 K and using SQUIDs to detect in current changes in magnetic pickup coils. The test masses of different materials and the position measuring equipment are placed inside the satellite and micro Newton thrusters are used to cancel the small accelerations of the satellite due to air drag, radiation pressure and the solar wind which could couple to masses. 2, record 75, English, - satellite%20test%20of%20the%20equivalence%20principle

An atomic absorption spectrophotometer measures element concentrations in solution by spraying(nebulising) the solution into a long narrow hot flame. Light from a hollow cathode lamp, containing the element to be analysed, passes above the long and narrow burner to a monochromator. The monochromator isolates ground state radiation from the hollow cathode lamp. The solution is sprayed into the fuel and air premixing chamber feeding the flame. Free atoms are produced in the flame because of the heat and reducing conditions. If the atoms are the same as the element in the lamp, then light is absorbed. The degree of absorption depends on the amount of that element present in the original solution. The results are compared with standard solutions which allow concentrations to be determined. The technique can be highly precise and accurate. 2, record 83, English, - atomic%20absorption%20spectrometer

Flotation Clarifiers. Dissolved air flotation is a solids-removal process where fine air bubbles become attached to the suspended particles, thus reducing the density of individual particles and causing them to float to the surface. The separated solids then form a floating layer that is a mixture of solids and air bubbles. The buoyant force exerted by the entrapped air also acts to compact the solids into a smaller volume before the floating layer is skimmed off.... A flotation clarifier of recent design is illustrated in Figure 26-7. This unit features a deep, baffled flow shaft for the wastewater. Air is injected on the downcomer side at the bottom of the shaft where a portion is dissolved by hydrostatic pressure. Undissolved air rises against the downward flow, contributing to water saturation. Rising water on the other side of the shaft is thereby saturated with air, but free of undissolved air bubbles. As hydrostatic pressure declines, microscopic bubbles are released from solution and become attached to the suspended solids. 1, record 91, English, - flotation%20clarifier

1, record 91, French, - clarificateur%20par%20flottation

In North America, acid rain is a national as well as an international problem. Within the United States, pollutees are given an entitlement to be free from pollution above the limits set under the United States Clean Air Act. Canadian victims are entitled to much less. But, in both states, environmental legislation is focused on short-range air pollution since the legislation was drafted at a time when one was not aware, yet, of the detrimental effects of long-range air pollution. Therefore, the victims of long-range pollution are not adequately protected within both states. 2, record 96, English, - long%2Drange%20air%20pollution

Oil furnaces. Indoor oil furnaces... are available in upflow, downflow, horizontal and low-boy configurations for ducted systems. They are also available as floor furnaces, wall furnaces, and free standing space heaters. Oil-fired outdoor furnaces and combination units are rare.... The ducted system, oil-fired, forced air furnaces are usually equipped with pressure-atomizing burners. The pump pressure and the orifice size of the injection nozzle regulate the firing rate of the furnace. Electric ignition is used to ignite the burners.... The combustion chamber and heat exchanger of oil-fired furnaces are normally formed as a common single chamber. It is formed from heavy gage steel into a welded assembly. The hot flue products flow through the inside of the heat exchanger into the chimney. The conditioned air flows over the outside of the heat exchanger and into the air supply plenum. 1, record 97, English, - oil%20furnace

5, record 97, French, - g%C3%A9n%C3%A9rateur%20%C3%A0%20mazout
