FREE ALKALI [7 records]

Record 1 2016-02-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
  • Wastewater Treatment
CONT

Filtration through Neutralite.... Due to the complete absence of free alkali, its properties are completely stable indefinitely. There is consequently no excessive alkalinity in the water at the moment the product is introduced, nor a regular drop in its activity; the risk of the product solidifying as a result of the carbonates in the water precipitating from the effect of high alkalinity is completely avoided.

CONT

Filtration sur Neutralite. [...]

Record 3 2003-10-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
DEF

Procedure based on the formation of a diazo linkage between enzyme proteins and aryldiazonium electrophilic groups on the insoluble support. Supports containing aromatic amino groups are treated with sodium nitrite in acidic solutions and the resultant activated support reacts with aromatic residues such as the phenolic residue of L-tyrosine or the imidazole residue of L-histidine to give azo derivatives.

CONT

There are many commercial diazonium salts used as azo coupling reagents, which are usually in a stabilized form(a stable diazotate) produced by reaction with alkali(forming the free base) or with zinc chloride(forming a diazo double salt)... Diazonium ions are weak electrophiles; they react with highly reactive aromatic compounds-with phenols and tertiary aromatic amines-to yield azo compounds... Azo coupling of proteins can be effected by polymers containing aryldiazonium functional groups... Monomers containing aromatic nitro groups grafted onto polymers have been reduced, diazotized, and used to immobilize enzymes.

CONT

  • Chemistry
DEF

The by-product obtained from the alkali refining process. On acidification this material yields crude fatty acids called "acid oils". Soap stock consists of a mixture of soap, free caustic soda, water, oil phosphatides and other impurities which are removed from the crude oil during the refining process.

DEF
