Primary disinfection is the application of a disinfectant in the drinking water treatment plant, with a primary objective to achieve the necessary microbial inactivation. The efficacy of disinfection using chlorine can be predicted based on a knowledge of the residual free chlorine concentration, temperature, pH, and contact time. This relationship is commonly referred to as the CT concept and is used by public drinking water suppliers as one tool for ensuring adequate inactivation of organisms during disinfection. CT is the product of the residual concentration of disinfectant(C), measured in mg/L at the outlet of the contact chamber, and the disinfectant contact time(T), measured in minutes. The CT values required to achieve the necessary inactivation will depend on the microorganism targeted, pH, and temperature. 1, record 1, English, - CT%20concept

4, record 1, French, - crit%C3%A8re%20CT

Water safety at the community level involves interventions at the source of the water supply or in the distribution system, including physically removing pathogens(i. e., through filtration, adsorption, sedimentation, or other methods) ;chemically treating the water, commonly with chlorine, to kill or deactivate pathogens; and disinfecting water using heat(i. e., boiling or pasteurization) or ultraviolet radiation(i. e., sun or artificial lamp). Alternatively, protected sources of water can be created, such as springs, wells, and boreholes, which are generally free from contaminants. As for sanitation, improved and unimproved water facilities have been defined based on their risk of contamination. 2, record 2, English, - water%20safety

Electrolysis is the process by which ionic substances are broken down into simpler substances using electricity. During electrolysis, metals and gases may form at the electrodes. …To understand electrolysis, you need to know what an ionic substance is. Ionic substances form when a metal reacts with a non-metal. They contain charged particles called ions. For example, sodium chloride forms when sodium reacts with chlorine. It contains positively charged sodium ions and negatively charged chloride ions. Ionic substances can be broken down by electricity. … For electrolysis to work, the ions must be free to move. Ions are free to move when an ionic substance is dissolved in water or molten(melted). For example, if electricity is passed through copper chloride solution, the copper chloride is broken down to form copper metal and chlorine gas. … Here is what happens during electrolysis : Positively charged ions move to the negative electrode during electrolysis. They receive electrons and are reduced. Negatively charged ions move to the positive electrode during electrolysis. They lose electrons and are oxidised. … So the electrolysis of copper chloride solution produces copper at the negative electrode. But the electrolysis of sodium chloride solution produces hydrogen. 2, record 11, English, - copper%2Dchloride%20electrolysis

The prefixes "ortho-," "meta-" and "para-," along with their corresponding abbreviations ("o-," "m-" and "p-"), appear in italics and are ignored in alphabetizing. According to the actual chemical nomenclature rules in organic chemistry (in 2003), the numbers designating the positions of the disubstitution groups (1,2- for "ortho-," 1,3- for "meta-" and 1,4- for "para-") are to be preferred to the symbols "o-," "m-" and "p-." Furthermore, the prefixes "ortho-," "meta-" and "para-" should not be used anymore, and their corresponding abbreviations ("o-," "m-," and "p-") will soon be judged to be avoided, if not totally condemned. 1, record 12, English, - 3%2C3%27%2Ddimethyl%2D%5B1%2C1%27%2Dbiphenyl%5D%2D4%2C4%27%2Ddiamine
