Open-net pens : Found offshore, in coastal areas or in freshwater lakes, open-net pens... are considered a high-risk aquaculture method, since they allow for free exchange between the farm and the surrounding environment. Salmon are typically farmed this way. Open-net pens allow free exchange of waste, chemicals, parasites and disease. There is also the potential for farmed fish to escape. Farms can also attract predators, such as marine mammals, that can get tangled in fish farm nets and drown. 2, record 3, English, - open%2Dnet%20pen

Are all metal acrylate TBT [tributyltin] free SPC antifoulings the same? No. There are two types of metal acrylate antifoulings. The first type are the copper acrylate... systems. The second type are the zinc acrylate systems. Although the biocides used in these two antifouling systems are essentially the same with the predominant biocide in both systems being copper oxide, copper complexes are more tightly bound and stable in seawater than zinc complexes. In the presence of the copper oxide biocide, zinc acrylate systems(in our experience) may undergo chemical exchange reactions with the copper oxide biocide. Copper acrylate systems do not undergo this exchange. The stability, longevity and performance of the copper acrylate... systems can therefore be expected to be greater than that of typical zinc acrylate deep sea systems. 3, record 17, English, - zinc%20acrylate%20anti%2Dfouling

Transformation is the process of transferring a free DNA [deoxyribonucleic acid] molecule from a donor to a recipient bacterium. In vitro, the uptake of a plasmid into the DNA of a living microorganism can be useful in determining gene expression and in vivo, transformation is useful to cells for the exchange of information. In the case of plasmid transformation, a plasmid which has a known gene is introduced to competent bacterial cells for uptake. In order for a cell to be competent it must have a binding site for the donor DNA and will usually(in vitro) have been treated with salts for easier uptake of plasmid DNA. 3, record 23, English, - competent%20donor%20bacterium%20cell

To maximize isotopic exchange, it is very important that the [hydrogen sulphide] in the units be maintained at a very high purity(99. 5%). Unfortunately, the natural water, although treated, still contains small quantities of dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and other gases. If not removed continuously, these gases would accumulate and decrease the [hydrogen sulphide] purity. A continuous gas purge is drawn from the top of each firs stage cold tower and send to the purge tower where the [hydrogen sulphide] is absorbed by the incoming water. The gaseous impurities proceed from the purge tower to the absorber where any remaining [hydrogen sulphide] is absorbed. The gases, essentially [hydrogen sulphide] free, are then flared. The flare is used in this case to burn any [hydrogen sulphide] that might not have been absorbed. 1, record 38, English, - gaseous%20impurity
