A chemical agent that causes a pest, as an insect, to stop eating. 7, record 9, English, - antifeedant
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Chemicals possess the properties of inhibiting the feeding of insect pests... these can be classed as antifeedants. The first chemicals noticed with these properties were initially referred to as repellants, but they are not repellants in that they do not merely drive the insect away to another plant but do actually inhibit feeding on that plant. In laboratory tests insects have remained on treated plants indefinitely and eventually starved to death without eating the leaves. In field tests the insects were free to wander elsewhere seeking food... they either found weed plants to feed on or died of predation and starvation. 8, record 9, English, - antifeedant

Consejos útiles para la conservación de alimentos. Cómo esterilizar. [...] 1, record 14, Spanish, - esterilizar

Principles of Organic Aquaculture. "Even though we don’t have standards, "says Dolinski, "we can assume the same principles used for organic livestock production will apply for aquatic animal production". The water will have to be clean and free of contaminants. It is very likely the water will have to be more strictly monitored than other types of organic production. Residue analysis may be required on a regular basis. The production area will have to be surrounded by a barrier zone to prevent contamination. If there is risk from spray drift for example, a buffer zone will be required depending on your location. The fish will have to be fed organically certified food supplements. The only useable fish medications would be identified on a permitted list, if there are any approved at all. The fish would have to be reared so they could behave "naturally"... 2, record 30, English, - organic%20aquaculture

... Ronald C. Idol, market development manager from Cryovac, reported on the American introduction of oxygen absorber packets from Japan and the revolutionary effect they may have on food-packaging and preservation. The most dramatic result of oxygen absorbers is their ability to create a cost-effective, controlled-atmosphere package.... Free oxygen is a major cause of deterioration of foods.... However, the combination of an oxygen-barrier package and an oxygen-absorber packet can change all that. The packet, which usually contains powdered, active iron-oxide, chemically absorbs the free oxygen in the package. The level of oxygen is reduced to 0. 01 per cent or less within one day at room temperature. Due to this low residual-oxygen level, mold cannot grow on the food. Oxidative color and flavor changes are also eliminated. 3, record 31, English, - deoxidizer

In exchange for food and a home for the rhizobia in the tumor-like nodules formed on plant roots, the rhizobia aid plant growth by making nitrogen available. The process by which the nitrogen of the air is converted into a usable form available to the plant is called symbiotic nitrogen fixation. Nitrogenase enzymes catalyze the conversion of free nitrogen to ammonia, which is then incorporated into amino acids and proteins. 1, record 34, English, - symbiotic%20nitrogen%20fixation

Welded cans are manufactured by one of two methods, wheel or wire welding. Both are variations of a forge-welding process.... Wire welding can accommodate the use of tin plate while wheel welding is best suited for tin-free steel, TFS. When using TFS, both methods require grinders to clean the edges to be welded so that they are free of oxides and chrome surface materials. Prior to side seam welding, the body blanks are formed into cylinders and tack-welded to maintain shape and proper relationship of the edges to each other.... Welded seams are used extensively for three-piece beverage, aerosol and food cans. 1, record 37, English, - wire%20welding
