One of the western boundary currents of the North Pacific subtropical gyre. 4, record 1, English, - Kuroshio
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
A deep, narrow, and swift current, it continues from the Philippines Current in a northeastward direction from Taiwan along the continental rise of the East China Sea, through Tokara Strait, and close to the eastern coast of Japan. At 35°N it separates from the coast and flows eastward into the Pacific as a free jet known as the Kuroshio Extension. It forms a marked temperature and salinity front with the Oyashio, which meets the Kuroshio Extension from the north and then flows parallel to it. Like all other western boundary currents, the Kuroshio develops instabilities and sheds eddies. Its unique characteristic is that south of Honshu it switches between three quasi-stable paths across the Izu Ridge at irregular intervals of 18 months to several years. Volume transport in the Kuroshio increases downstream and reaches 57 Sv... in the Kuroshio Extension, increasing seasonally by 15% during summer. The current's path in the extension is characterized by large meridional excursions in the so-called First and Second Crest at 145° and 152°E. On approaching the Shatsky Rise at 157°E, the Kuroshio Extension divides into several paths that tend to recombine before the Emperor Seamounts near 170°E cause the current to split again and disintegrate. The flow then continues as the North Pacific Current. 4, record 1, English, - Kuroshio

3, record 1, French, - Kuroshio

Washing and Scrubbing the Ore. Washing of run-of-mine ore removes obscuring dust and casual dirt from the surface of the pieces and facilitates recognition when hand picking is to be practised. A second effect may be the removal of primary slimes of no value. Clays, colloidal fines, and similar valueless material can easily be taken out at the earlier stages, but may be difficult to remove once fine crushing has liberated a substantial quantity of finely shattered mineral. ... The disintegrating forces used are of a gentle nature, not intended to fracture the ore but simply to tumble particle against particle until the desired amount of cleansing has been accomplished. 2, record 2, English, - scrubbing

Heat transfer coefficients are shown as functions of downstream and transverse plate coordinates as determined experimentally for different blowing ratios near one and for levels of free stream turbulence from 1 percent to 17 percent of the free stream velocity. Heat transfer between the plate and the free stream is reduced by the film cooling at higher levels of free stream turbulence. Heat transfer is increased on the plate in the region between the film cooling jets at all levels of blowing ratio for one percent free stream turbulence. This undesirable augmentation of the heat transfer is modeled analytically and related to the axial vortices generated near the film cooling jet inlets. The strength of these vortices and the subsequent heat transfer increases are related to the blowing ration. 1, record 4, English, - film%20cooling

An arrangement in which the turbine extracts just sufficient energy from high pressure gas to drive the compressor and where the gases leaving the turbine will still be at a pressure above atmospheric and can be expanded in a propelling nozzle to produce a high velocity jet. Gas turbine engines for aircraft come in many types and sizes, each of which has its advantages and also its limitations. The most common type is the uncomplicated turbojet, similar to the typical jet engine described earlier. Because it has no added features such as a fan, propeller, of free turbine, this kind of turbojet is sometimes referred to as straight jet engine.
