  • Law of Contracts (common law)
CONT

Parties are free to make their own arrangements for contractual interest and if they do, the late payment legislation will not apply. However, to prevent buyers abusing the right to agree their own arrangements, any contractual remedy for late payment must be "substantial" or the Court will declare it void.

A late 19th-and early 20th-century phenomenon, in which immigrants were attracted to the Canadian West by government advertisements of "free" land. Under the Dominion Lands Policy, 160 acres cost only $10, but the homesteader had to build a house, often of log or sod and cultivate a specified area within 3 years... In many areas a homestead had to be within 15 km of a railway to be farmed economically.("The Canadian Encyclopedia", Vol. II, 1985, pp. 827-828).

Temperatures that cause freeze injury to winter wheat at different growth stages. Winter wheat rapidly loses hardiness during spring growth and is easily injured by late freezes. ... Late freezing usually injures only certain parts of the wheat head and rarely kills the whole plant, plants may continue to absorb nitrate from the soil but do not have any developing grain to utilize the nitrogen. Nitrate might accumulate under those conditions and poison livestock unless the feed is diluted with adequate quantities of low-nitrate feed.

CONT

Once an appropriate species has been chosen, planting should be timed to avoid early frost or late frost... Avoid planting valley bottoms prone to cold air drainage and radiative frost until later in the season. Although these sites may be snow free early in the spring, depending upon the species, they should not be planted until after the risk of frost has passed.

CONT

Free learning may be all very well and good for the future, but what about those of us who have already been through the system? How can we establish a more positive and fruitful relationship to learning? The answer, it seems to me, is to clean out the garbage, expand your learning skills, and then use those skills. It is never too late to start being a free learner. As a start along that direction, I would especially recommend Jean Houston's The Possible Human. Get together with some friends and start a learning circle devoted to expanding your learning capacities. You might be amazed at the results.
