Computers for Schools(CFS) is a national, federal government-led program that operates in cooperation with all provinces and territories, the private and volunteer sectors. The program collects, repairs and refurbishes donated surplus computers from government and private sector sources and distributes them free to schools and libraries throughout Canada. CFS was co-founded in 1993 by Industry Canada and the Telephone Pioneers the largest industry-related volunteer organization in the world. Computers for Schools contributes to the government's Connecting Canadians initiative. Since its inception, CFS has provided more than 300 000 computers to schools and libraries in all provinces and territories. CFS now delivers in excess of 60 000 additional computers each year. In addition to coordinating computer donors and recipients, CFS oversees more than 55 repair and refurbishing centres throughout Canada, where surplus computers are cleaned, refurbished and prepared for delivery. Workshops are staffed by volunteers, including current and retired telecommunications professionals, and students.

Le Programme des ordinateurs pour les écoles contribue à l'initiative «Un Canada branché» mise sur pied par le gouvernement. Le Programme OPE, qui, depuis ses débuts, a fourni plus de 250 000 ordinateurs aux écoles et aux bibliothèques de l'ensemble des provinces et territoires, en fournit maintenant plus de 60 000 autres par année. En plus de coordonner les donateurs d'ordinateurs et les bénéficiaires, les responsables du Programme OPE supervisent plus de 55 centres de réparation et de remise à neuf aux quatre coins du Canada, où l'on nettoie les ordinateurs, on les remet à neuf et on les prépare à être livrés. The Link to Health program, a gentle fitness program for adultsover 55, began in 1969 as the "Fun and Fitness" program in Western Canada. In 1996, the Canadian Red Cross re-designed it to have a more holistic approach and renamed it Link to Health. It began as "Fun and Fitness" in the Toronto Region in 1991 and has grown and changed over the years to what it is today. Originally offered in nursing homes and senior's centers, Link to Health eventually moved to more accessible locations for seniors who live independently in their communities. The Special Program of Assistance for Africa(SPA) was established in 1987 as a response to the economic crises of the debt-distressed countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. An informal association of donors, the SPA was intended to support the countries structural adjustment programs with the International Development Association and the International Monetary Fund. The SPA did respond to the challenge. Free of the restrictive formality of other fora, donors were able to test ideas and develop a mutual understanding. High-level donor representation provided the opportunity for meaningful interactions with World Bank and IMF policy makers. The SPA helped to channel substantial quick-disbursing aid. Through peer pressure, it improved donor procedures. It broadened its agenda to address structural impediments to broad-based development. It provided a platform for frank and open exchanges on Africa's economic and social policy issues. It facilitated a convergence of development assistance goals and practices while preserving flexibility.

The Centre national d’études spatiales(CNES) is developing an atomic clock of unequaled precision, which will be launched in 2003 aboard the International Space Station(ISS). The PHARAO clock(Cooled Atom In-Orbit Atomic Clock Project)... uses cooled cesium atoms in order to reach an accuracy and stability 10 to 100 times higher than any other high-performance existing calibrating clocks. The Cesium atoms are thrown on a free flight in a cavity enabling interaction with a radio-frequency field. They then transfer their intrinsic accuracy and stability qualities to the piezoelectric oscillator. The lack of gravity increases the time in which the atoms interact with the piezoelectric oscillator, which then increases the resolution and accuracy of the clock by a 10 factor. PHARAO will belong to ESA's ACES(Atomic Clock Ensemble in Space) payload within the frame of one of its ISS program. The ACES mission will be divided in two parts. The first one, which should last six months, will mostly focus on the PHARAO clock performance. The second part of the mission will last 12 months and will allow the international scientific community to use the clock for specific experiments(clocks’ synchronization, General Relativity tests, geodesy, etc.).

For example, many elements in the Commission's quality control efforts ensure that grain shipped is free of pesticide residues.
