The EVA 3-D roller wrench operates using 3-D rollers connected with springs installed between concentric cylindrical races. The pins "disengage" one set of rollers, which allows its "engaged" partner roller to roll up the wedge surface of the hub when the wrench is turned in one direction. Rotation in the other direction causes the roller to roll down the wedge surface, disengaging the clutch for overrunning. This action allows the wrench to apply torque in one direction and free spin in the other like a traditional ratchet wrench. Moving the pins clockwise so that they engage neither roller will cause the wrench to become a rigid bar, allowing the wrench to apply torque in both directions. Rotating the pins further clockwise will cause them to "disengage" the rollers that were previously engaged, allowing the wrench to apply torque in the opposite direction as before.

Gyroscopic pendulum. Free pendulum. The gyro spinning wheel is running at constant speed. The precession drive, which lies in a plane symmetric with respect to the gimbal is not controlled. When the gimbal becomes free, the gravity torque drives it around the horizontal axis, perpendicular to the symmetry plane, until it falls on the top. This rate of rotation of the gimbal creates a gyroscopic torque that makes the spinner rotate around the precession axis in spite of the friction due to the gear of the precession drive.

Three-frame gyroscopes. The unrestrained or "free" three-frame gyroscope has little practical use, because its spin axis is subject to tilting and drifting owing to the rotation of the Earth.

The Two Frame Gyroscope. When the rotor is spinning and the spin axis is in a horizontal plane a definite resistance will be felt owing to gyroscope inertia, at the same time the spin axis will begin to precess in a vertical plane and will continue to do so with sufficient power to lift light weights until all the gyroscopic inertia disappears due to the rotor slowing and stopping. The Three Frame Gyroscope. If the base of a three framed gyroscope is held in the hand with the rotor spinning and turned about any of the three axes, the rotor will continue to point in the original direction in space. This property is known as gyroscope inertia.

L'équipe du Gaul a pu constater que le gyroscope a subi des dommages importants : les cadres externes et internes sont très déformés, l'axe des cadres brisé, plusieurs fils sont rompus et l'encodeur de l'axe des cadres présente une grande résistance à la rotation.
