A comparatively small vessel with powerful engines and constructed in such a way as to be able to manoeuvre easily for towage and/or to assist in salvage operations at sea. 5, record 1, English, - tugboat
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Tugboats are needed to pull or push large ships in confined waters such as in a harbor area and docks, and they are also needed to tow large ships on long ocean voyages.... They are capable of firefighting and salvage duties and may carry large capacity pumps for these purposes. One important design characteristic of a tugboat is its hull form and propulsion system are designed both for a given free running speed and a high thrust at zero speed. Furthermore, its upper deck layout is dictated by the need to get close into a variety of vessels and by the need to keep the towing point above the longitudinal center of lateral pressure so that a lateral pull has a minimum effect on maneuverability. 6, record 1, English, - tugboat

The drawbridge of ancient and medieval periods was built for military purposes. It was constructed to bridge the moat around the castle or fortified town and to be raised in case of attack. The open leaf also constituted an additional barricade across the entrance to the fortification. Many of these early structures were operated by a lever system. One end of the lever was connected to the free end of the span by chains, and the other was actually counterweighted. An arrangement of counterweights attached to chains running over pulleys and connected to the free end of the span was also much in use. 1, record 4, English, - drawbridge

The motion induced in a gyroscope by an applied force follows a simple rule. When the spinning top, for example, is acted upon by a gravity-induced torque, the original rotational motion tries to align itself with the added rotational motion of the torque.

2, record 12, French, - pendule%20libre

Gyroscopic pendulum. Free pendulum. The gyro spinning wheel is running at constant speed. The precession drive, which lies in a plane symmetric with respect to the gimbal is not controlled. When the gimbal becomes free, the gravity torque drives it around the horizontal axis, perpendicular to the symmetry plane, until it falls on the stop. 1, record 13, English, - stop
