Record 3 2015-02-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Skating
DEF

A roll which is begun as a cross stroke... The stroke is made from the outside edge of the skate and the skating foot then becomes the free foot.

OBS

In the dances in this Rulebook, all cross strokes are cross rolls, and the terms may be used interchangeably.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Patinage
DEF

OBS

Ce terme appartient au patinage artistique.

Record 4 2014-01-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A molecular device capable of converting energy into movement and able to generate forces on the order of piconewtons.

CONT

The nanomotor has a positioning stroke up to some centimeters while operating with atomic resolution and thus builds a bridge over eight orders of magnitude. The nanomotor is a piezo driven linear motor consisting of a cylindrical housing and a slider with a free axial hole inside. It utilizes a piezo tube for fine positioning and a pulse wave produced by the same piezo tube for coarse movements. Every point of its stroke can be reached with a speed of up to 5 mm/s. In its free axial hole the nanomotor can transport a tip, a hose, an electrode, a hypodermic needle, a glass fiber or even a microgripper. The nanomotor is available in three different versions. The "small" nanomotor is half the size of a match stick. It can lift six times of its own mass. The dynamic force of this nanomotor is so high, that even imprints in diamond surfaces can be produced. Special versions of the nanomotor can operate in ultra high vacuum, in liquid helium, even under water or as non-magnetic drives.

PHR

Primer, virus nanomotor.

PHR

Nanotube nanomotor.

Key term(s)
  • nano-motor

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
DEF

Record 5 1998-08-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cytology
DEF

The rhythmic, coordinated contraction of cilia of cells in a two-step process involving intraciliary excitation followed by interciliary conduction.

OBS

cilium : a minute vibratile, hairlike process projecting from the free surface of a cell.... They beat rhythmically to move the cell about in its environment or to move fluid or mucous films over its surface. Ciliary movement consists of an effective stroke, in which the cilium stiffens and moves forward rapidly, and a recovery stroke.... Cilia may all beat simultaneously.. or successive cilia in each row may start their beat sequentially....

French

Domaine(s)
  • Cytologie
CONT

Les perturbations de l'épuration [pulmonaire]. [...]

Record 6 1979-10-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Skating
OBS

A three turn in which the edge after the turn is held briefly. After the turn the weight is almost immediately transferred(dropped) to the free foot as it becomes the skating foot for the next stroke.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Patinage
OBS

OBS

Ce terme appartient au patinage artistique.
