Free products and dissolved petroleum components from the surface of the contaminated aquifer are captured and treated via multi-phase extraction & treatment. Bioslurping induces a horizontal vacuum gradient on the targeted monitor/recovery wells through a slurp tube which is inserted into each well. Product and groundwater are entrained in droplet form in a high velocity air stream and brought to the surface for treatment. Following air/liquid separation the liquid phase is treated by a combination of oil/water separation, air stripping, and liquid phase carbon treatment before being discharged. The off-gas is treated(if necessary) by vapour phase carbon treatment. The advantages of multi-phase extraction & treatment include : a high product to groundwater extraction ratio; aeration of the vadose zone which enhances natural biodegradation of the hydrocarbon contaminants; all treatment components may be housed in a turn-key mobile remedial unit; a simple product recovery technology which can be transferred to conventional remedial applications such as pump and treat, sparging and vapour extraction system(VES) applications. There are two distinct ways in which a polymer support might affect the microenvironment surrounding an immobilized enzyme. The first may be considered to be a partitioning effect. By virtue of its own physical chemistry, the polymer may attract(or repel) substrate, product, inhibitor, or other molecules to its surface thus concentrating(or depleting) them in the immediate vicinity of the enzyme. The second way in which the polymer may affect the enzyme's microenvironment may be by presenting itself as a barrier to the free diffusion of molecules both to and from the enzyme. 3, record 43, English, - microenvironment

2, record 44, French, - inertie%20gyroscopique

This specification covers asphalt-saturated organic felt for use as an underlayment in steep slope roofing. The objective of this specification is to provide a finished product that will lie flat and resist wrinkling, puckering, and shrinking when left exposed to the sun, rain, frost, or dew for a period of two weeks after application. In the process of manufacture, a single thickness of organic dry felt shall be uniformly saturated with an asphaltic saturant and the felt shall be produced principally from organic fibers. The surface of the felt shall be uniform and relatively smooth and upon splitting or tearing on the bias, the felt shall appear free of lumps or particles of foreign substances. The material shall conform to the prescribed physical requirements such as tear strength, pliability, loss on heating, liquid water transmission, breaking strength, and dimensional stability, and to the specified dimension and mass requirements such as roll width, roll area, net mass of saturated felt, net mass of desaturated felt, saturation, moisture, and saturating efficiency. The finished product shall not crack nor be so sticky as to cause tearing or other damage upon being unrolled. 6, record 51, English, - asphalt%20saturated%20felt

4, record 51, French, - feutre%20impr%C3%A9gn%C3%A9%20d%27asphalte

Solar distillation. The solar distillation process makes use of the fact that water will evaporate from a free surface at a temperature below its boiling point. A simple solar still [acts as a greenhouse]. The sun's rays pass through a sloping glass cover... The solar energy is absorbed by a black basin in the bottom of the still,... the heated water evaporates..., rises to the top... and condenses. The condensate-fresh water-trickles down... to a collecting trough. 2, record 52, English, - solar%20distillation

A large crack(called a "glide crack") is formed at the top of the slope, and below this crack is where the snow is slipping down the hill. The rate of glide is variable and based on many factors(not well understood). The two biggest influences are the ground cover(smooth grass and rock slab cause glide) as well as the amount of free water at the base of the snowpack which can lubricate the sliding surface. Often these glide slabs will slip downhill for months, or most of the winter. They are very unpredictable and when they decide to release then we generally get a very large avalanche because the entire snowpack depth to the ground slides. When the glide slab finally releases-that is a "glide avalanche. "[Reference : Grant Statham, Avalanche Specialist, Parks Canada. ] 4, record 56, English, - glide%20avalanche

Do not confuse "glide avalanche" with "full-depth avalanche". Glide is a slow process that usually occurs over several days, weeks or even months, while a "full-depth avalanche" is a sudden release of a slab avalanche that breaks to the ground. 4, record 56, English, - glide%20avalanche

The EVA 3-D roller wrench operates using 3-D rollers connected with springs installed between concentric cylindrical races. The pins "disengage" one set of rollers, which allows its "engaged" partner roller to roll up the wedge surface of the hub when the wrench is turned in one direction. Rotation in the other direction causes the roller to roll down the wedge surface, disengaging the clutch for overrunning. This action allows the wrench to apply torque in one direction and free spin in the other like a traditional ratchet wrench. Moving the pins clockwise so that they engage neither roller will cause the wrench to become a rigid bar, allowing the wrench to apply torque in both directions. Rotating the pins further clockwise will cause them to "disengage" the rollers that were previously engaged, allowing the wrench to apply torque in the opposite direction as before. 2, record 74, English, - EVA%203%2DD%20roller%20wrench

Convection... is a principal means of energy transfer. Distinction is made between free convection(gravitational or buoyant convection), motion caused only by density differences within the fluid; and forced convection, motion induced by mechanical forces such as deflection by a large-scale surface irregularity, turbulent flow caused by friction at the boundary of a fluid, or motion caused by any applied pressure gradient. Free and forced convection are not necessarily exclusive processes. On a windy day with overcast sky, the heat exchange between ground and air is an example of forced convection. On a sunny day with a little wind where the ground temperature rises, both kinds of convection take place. 3, record 78, English, - forced%20convection

Such supersaturation does develop because frequently there is no "plane surface of pure water(or ice) "available. Emphasis is on the interaction of current-free monochromatic surface wave fields with uniform current fields in a three-dimensional flow frame. [...] Specifically this will require numerical analysis knowledge to develop the computational formulations of the problem, to discretize these formulations, to write the algorithms and the relevant Matlab codes and to perform the required validation tests and simulations of the resulting solutions. In addition, a robust knowledge of the relatively new field of waveform relaxation and related methods will be essential, as well as extensive practical knowledge of Matlab and Maple programming environments.

Frontier zones may serve several purposes. The smallest, of a few metres only, will be to mark the frontier, and will involve the destruction of all natural or artificial protrusions from the surface of the earth. Others may be of several kilometres width, and provide for a customs free zone, or, for example, that doctors and midwives may be permitted to practise their profession in the territory adjoining that of their own practice. Such zones are formed in the interests of the local populations on each side of the frontier, in an effort to palliate the disruptive effect of the political frontier. 1, record 100, English, - frontier%20zone
