Ratio of the activity of the immobilized enzymes(or cells) and the activity of an equivalent quantity of free enzymes(or cells). Assay must be under the same conditions. The activities of immobilized enzymes are usually expressed in terms of the number of grams of product formed per gram of immobilized enzyme/cells used per hour, or a g of product formed per ml of reactor volume per unit time. 2, record 3, English, - effectiveness%20factor
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The rate of a heterogenous enzymic reaction is attenuated by the relative slowness of the substrate diffusion to the enzyme. By analogy to the well established chemical action of inhibitors, this phenomenon can be referred to as "diffusional inhibition". In the chemical engineering literature the effect of diffusional limitations on the catalyst activity is quantitatively expressed by the effectiveness factor, [eta], which measures the departure of V from Vkin and is defined by the following relationship: V = [eta]Vkin. Thus, the magnitude of diffusional inhibition is conveniently expressed by the reciprocal of the effectiveness factor, which is a complex function of the kinetic parameters, transport coefficient, and substrate concentration. 3, record 3, English, - effectiveness%20factor

One of the western boundary currents of the North Pacific subtropical gyre. 4, record 5, English, - Kuroshio
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
A deep, narrow, and swift current, it continues from the Philippines Current in a northeastward direction from Taiwan along the continental rise of the East China Sea, through Tokara Strait, and close to the eastern coast of Japan. At 35°N it separates from the coast and flows eastward into the Pacific as a free jet known as the Kuroshio Extension. It forms a marked temperature and salinity front with the Oyashio, which meets the Kuroshio Extension from the north and then flows parallel to it. Like all other western boundary currents, the Kuroshio develops instabilities and sheds eddies. Its unique characteristic is that south of Honshu it switches between three quasi-stable paths across the Izu Ridge at irregular intervals of 18 months to several years. Volume transport in the Kuroshio increases downstream and reaches 57 Sv... in the Kuroshio Extension, increasing seasonally by 15% during summer. The current's path in the extension is characterized by large meridional excursions in the so-called First and Second Crest at 145° and 152°E. On approaching the Shatsky Rise at 157°E, the Kuroshio Extension divides into several paths that tend to recombine before the Emperor Seamounts near 170°E cause the current to split again and disintegrate. The flow then continues as the North Pacific Current. 4, record 5, English, - Kuroshio

Magnetic Properties of Nanocrystalline Metals. Nanocrystalline materials represent one form of grain boundary engineering which increases the intercrystalline volume fraction of a material. It has been shown that this can affect mechanical, chemical, magnetic, kinetic and electrical properties. Nanomaterials produced by electrodeposition are porosity free and therefore yield their true intrinsic properties. However when assessing the intrinsic properties of nanocrystalline electrodeposits, microstructural and texture differences must be taken into consideration.(Department of Materials and Metallurgical, Engineering, Queen's University, Kingston, ON, Canada),(Department of Metallurgical Engineering, McGill University, Montreal, Que, Canada)(<a href="http ://iptsg. epfl. ch/aps/BAPSMAR96/abs/S3650003. html" title="http ://iptsg. epfl. ch/aps/BAPSMAR96/abs/S3650003. html">http ://iptsg. epfl. ch/aps/BAPSMAR96/abs/S3650003. html</a>) 1, record 12, English, - nanocrystalline%20metal

Flotation Clarifiers. Dissolved air flotation is a solids-removal process where fine air bubbles become attached to the suspended particles, thus reducing the density of individual particles and causing them to float to the surface. The separated solids then form a floating layer that is a mixture of solids and air bubbles. The buoyant force exerted by the entrapped air also acts to compact the solids into a smaller volume before the floating layer is skimmed off.... A flotation clarifier of recent design is illustrated in Figure 26-7. This unit features a deep, baffled flow shaft for the wastewater. Air is injected on the downcomer side at the bottom of the shaft where a portion is dissolved by hydrostatic pressure. Undissolved air rises against the downward flow, contributing to water saturation. Rising water on the other side of the shaft is thereby saturated with air, but free of undissolved air bubbles. As hydrostatic pressure declines, microscopic bubbles are released from solution and become attached to the suspended solids. 1, record 13, English, - flotation%20clarifier

1, record 13, French, - clarificateur%20par%20flottation
