The freezing system uses a highly effective heat transfer technology for rapid crust-freezing of raw protein-laden products. A low temperature plate filled with recirculating refrigerant begins the freezing process immediately to set the product’s shape. With a firm bottom surface, the product has enough integrity to be transferred to a spiral or tunnel freezer where it can be deep frozen to 0°F. Including investment and consumable costs, mechanical freezing can be as low as one-tenth the cost of comparable cryogenic crust-freezing systems. 2, record 5, English, - crust%20freezing

Weather observations at Gander are taken from two locations. The primary observation site is located on the roof of the terminal building; a second observation site is located at ground level about 200 feet from the terminal building. When freezing precipitation is present or suspected, weather observers use an ice accretion indicator composed of a small piece of aluminum alloy similar to that found in aircraft structure. It is placed outside at the observation site and inspected for the presence of freezing precipitation at each observation. Mandatory weather observations are taken every 30 minutes, at the hour and half hour. When freezing precipitation is present, the indicator is removed and a new one installed at each mandatory observation. Prior to installation, the indicator is pre-cooled to ambient temperature. Thus, when observed at the next observation following installation, the indicator shows the type and quantity of freezing precipitation which occurred in the previous 30 minutes. 2, record 6, English, - ice%20accretion%20indicator

Float-type gauges are essentially water level gauges. A float in the gauge receptacle rises as rain water enters the chamber, the rise of the float being recorded by a pen on a suitably calibrated, clock-driven chart. Some float gauges can only record to the capacity of the chamber, but others are equipped with siphoning arrangements to let out the water when the chamber fills and to return the pen to the zero position on the chart. The most serious difficulty with such gauges is in their operation at temperatures below freezing. 4, record 7, English, - float%2Dtype%20gauge

5, record 10, French, - niveau%20de%20cong%C3%A9lation
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 2 OBS
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 3 OBS
Ice storms, also referred to as glaze storms, cause considerable damage every year to trees and power lines. Ice accumulates when super cooled rain freezes on contact with surfaces, such as tree branches, that are at or below the freezing point. This generally occurs when a winter warm front passes through an area after the ground level temperature reaches or falls below freezing. 3, record 11, English, - supercooled%20rain

Water Filling. The principle of water cooling structural elements is now well established.(...) Water inside a structural member exposed to a building fire will absorb heat and maintain steel temperatures below the critical level of approximately 550°C. The heat is dissipated by convection to other non-exposed areas of the system and by conversion of the water to steam which is vented.(...) In high-rise structures, columns may be divided into zone levels(...) in order to limit the hydrostatic pressure at the bottom of the zone. Water in the system is generally treated with potassium carbonate in quantities sufficient to prevent freezing during winter, and potassium nitrate to inhibit corrosion. 1, record 14, English, - water%20filling

1, record 14, French, - irrigation
