Selon Dave Fuller qui a communiqué avec l'A.A.R., dans les brochures de cet organisme, quand il est employé isolément, le terme stowing recouvre souvent deux notions : celle de «Placement» et celle de «Securement». (Voir article A-7 de la brochure numéro 14). On peut donc le rendre par arrimage que le Trésor de la langue française définit comme étant l'action d'arrimer.
