CONT

"Cost and Freight" means that the seller chooses the ship and pays the ocean freight up to the named port. The seller carries out the loading on the ship as well as the export customs formalities if required. Delivery is accomplished when the goods are on board the ship at the port of loading. The transfer of risks for loss or damages to the goods occurs once they are on board the vessel; and the buyer must bear all costs.

OBS

CONT

... floating drilling vessels [include] the two surface-type mobile units, i.e., the ship and barge units, and the column-stabilized or semi-submersible units.

CONT

Drilling vessels that are essentially of ship or barge type, of normal configuration and proportions, and which operate in all conditions as typical surface displacement vessels, are to have scantlings that meet the requirements of "Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels" or "Rules for Building and Classing Steel Barges for Offshore Service" of current issue. Additional consideration for unusual loadings due to drilling operations, mooring, etc., and for unusual configurations such as catamarans, outriggers, etc., will be specially considered ...

CONT

The E-Z tree is a valve-latch assembly landed in the B.O.P. stack to form a temporary production tree during offshore tests carried out from a floating drilling vessel.

OBS

Floating drilling rigs are normally referred to as "drill vessels" or "drilling vessels" and are in the truest sense of the word "vessels." For a seafaring man, however, they differ in many respects from his general conception of a vessel. [As opposed to the traditional vessel,] the drill vessel often anchors for weeks and even months at one location. It may move only short distances from well to well. Seldom, if ever, does it need to visit port except for major repair or inspection. ... Many drill vessels, semi-submersibles for instance, cannot even be handled in present dry-dock facilities because of their size.

OBS

Vessel. Means every vessel which by means of its special outfit, purpose, design, or function engages in certain industrial ventures. Included in this classification are such vessels as drill rigs, missile range ships, dredges, cable layers, derrick barges, pipe lay barges, construction and wrecking barges. Excluded from this classification are vessels carrying freight for hire or engaged in oceanography, limnology, or the fishing industry.

The Wheat Board sells export grain on the basis of delivery instore or f. o. b. at the export terminals. Buyers must arrange for ocean freight and, in the case of an instore sale, the loading of the vessel. For those who desire the service, Wheat Board accredited exporters will charter a vessel, load the grain, and secure the documents needed for each shipment. In such cases, the exporters calls the wheat from the Wheat Board when the vessel arrives for loading, obtains the necessary documentation(inspection certificate, government weight certificates, etc.), arranges loading and obtains the bill of lading.

OBS

DEF

A unit of measurement equivalent to one twenty foot shipping container.

OBS

Thus a forty foot container is equal to two t. e. u. 's. This measurement is used to quantify, for example, the container capacity of a ship, the number of containers carried on a particular voyage or over a period of time, the throughput of a terminal or the unit on which freight is payable. For example, a container vessel providing space for 800 containers of 20 feet and 400 containers of 40 feet is described as a 1 600 TEU vessel.

DEF

OBS

Liability to capture. It was Lord Stowell who introduced in prize law the rule that forfeiture of the neutral vessel can only follow upon proof of knowledge by the shipowner of the contraband nature of the cargo. The true test of liability to capture was, in Lord Stowell' s view, the state of mind of the neutral claimant :... The Declaration of London elected to rest the principle of confiscation not on the knowledge of the owner, but on the relative proportion of contraband to the whole cargo. The ship is involved in all cases where she carries contraband goods which either in value, weight, quantity or freight exceed half of the whole cargo...
