A CVECA is a self-reliant village savings and credit bank from the French Caisse Villageoise d’Epargne et de Crédit Autogérée. CVECAs are designed to operate in rural areas with clients who are primarily subsistence farmers, with minimal non-farm income. While most banks have less than 250 members, they achieve service flexibility and economies of scale through networking together into regional federations [...] CVECAs are member-based microfinance intermediaries inspired by external technical support. Structurally they lie between informal financial market actors like moneylenders, collectors, and ROSCAs on the one hand, and formal actors like microfinance institutions and banks on the other. 2, record 4, English, - self%2Dreliant%20village%20savings%20and%20credit%20bank

The Utopia Pavilion was one of the most noticed of the five theme pavilions at Portugal' s World Exhibition in Lisbon. For the first time at a World or Universal Exhibition, a show was staged for over 3 million spectators. It took co-author and artistic director François Confino three years during which he worked with American, Canadian, French and Portuguese staff to see this incredible challenge through. Soaring effects and gigantic special effects were specially designed, and extremely complex mechanical systems bred movement into flexible materials and stage sets at an unusually large scale. Through close collaboration with Philippe Genty, the director, Oceans & Utopias enticed the audience on a fascinating journey through mythology, conquest and the anguish of those at sea known to everyone faced with the boundlessness of the ocean. 1, record 5, English, - Utopia%20Pavilion

1, record 5, French, - Pavillon%20de%20l%27Utopie

Binet and Simon proceeded to assemble a scale composed of measures of the kinds of higher mental processes that Binet had argued were central to the assessment of intelligence. They constructed some of the specific cognitive tests themselves but they also modified a number of tests that had been developed by two French physicians, Drs Blin and Damaye. Binet and Simon drew samples of "normal" children and children thought to be retarded from schools, hospitals, orphanages, and asylums. The children ranged in age from two to twelve. They used these samples to try out the various tests with the goal of selecting those tests that clearly discriminated between the two groups of children. By this means, they selected thirty tests arranged roughly in ascending order of difficulty. 4, record 11, English, - Binet%2DSimon%20scale

Vineland Social Maturity Scale: a scale designed to assess social maturity in terms of the ability to come to terms with one’s social needs and assume responsibility. Norms are available up to age twenty-five. One scale may also be used with younger or retarded people. A "social age" (SA) and a "social quotient" may be answered from the 117 items. The Vineland Social Maturity Scale, originally developed by Edgar A. Doll, represented an early attempt to measure social competence. Doll defined social competence as "a functional composite of human traits which subserves social usefulness as reflected in self-sufficiency and in service to others." This aspect of human behavior has also been termed adaptive behavior and has been incorporated as a major component in the definition of mental retardation. 3, record 13, English, - Vineland%20Adaptive%20Behavior%20Scale

The term scale(French, "écaille") is employed with several different meanings; it may refer to a mass limited by an overthrust fault left in connection with its roots, which cannot be distinguished from a nappe of the second order, except by its smaller dimensions. The term may also refer to a nappe fragment that has been isolated between two other units, and which is considered secondary from the point of view of the interpretation. Finally, it may refer to secondary nappes resulting from the subdivision of a major nappe through folding. 1, record 15, English, - scale

1, record 15, French, - %C3%A9caille
