Since 1994, Environment Canada has relied upon a text-to-voice generating system called AVIPADS(Automated Voice Information Processing and Dissemination System) to deliver its forecasts, hourly weather reports, and a host of other voice products to its own network of ATADs(Automatic Telephone Answering Devices) and weather radios, in English and French. By using a vocabulary of almost 40, 000 words and phrases recorded by a human to give a natural sounding product with proper inflections and intonations and by concatenating them into voice files, AVIPADS now records over almost all of the basic level of service that Environment Canada provides on its voice recording network in both official languages. 1, record 3, English, - Automated%20Voice%20Information%20Processing%20and%20Dissemination%20System

3, record 7, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20drone%20tactique%20int%C3%A9rimaire

On the one hand it may refer to the result of going through(e. g. he can hit a very hard "serve") ;finally, it may even refer to one of the two attempts allowed to complete a service(e. g. he is about to make his second "serve"-French : deuxième balle de service). Any stroke that for some reason is replayed without penalty. In an average game, only two types of let are encountered: 1) when called solely in respect of a service that one service only shall be replayed; 2) when called under any other circumstance, the point shall be replayed. For instance, a serve that nicks the top of the net, then bounces in the proper service court is to be replayed. By extension, also a call made by the umpire or by one of the players to indicate that a point should be replayed because of a stray ball rolling across the court. Sometimes the term "let" is mistakenly referred to as a "net serve". A "let" is also played if, for instance, the receiver of a service is not ready to start; if one player involuntarily hinders his opponent; or if a player is hindered in playing by an external agency. 2, record 18, English, - let

Caution : If the ball touches the net on a service, the net judge will call "net", or sometimes "filet"(French Open). A CVECA is a self-reliant village savings and credit bank from the French Caisse Villageoise d’Epargne et de Crédit Autogérée. CVECAs are designed to operate in rural areas with clients who are primarily subsistence farmers, with minimal non-farm income. While most banks have less than 250 members, they achieve service flexibility and economies of scale through networking together into regional federations [...] CVECAs are member-based microfinance intermediaries inspired by external technical support. Structurally they lie between informal financial market actors like moneylenders, collectors, and ROSCAs on the one hand, and formal actors like microfinance institutions and banks on the other. 2, record 23, English, - self%2Dreliant%20village%20savings%20and%20credit%20bank

Evaluation guide to assess the linguistic quality of Web sites... In reaction to this recommendation, PSHRMAC [Public Service Human Resources Management Agency of Canada] conducted a non-systematic verification of the linguistic quality of the French content of five Government of Canada sites. The results of this verification are not available but, according to Agency officials, they were positive overall. Even so, the Agency decided to provide the departments and agencies with a self-assessment guide to assess their Web sites. This guide, created with the assistance of the CIDIF22(a research and development centre in the “internationalization” and “localization” of software and Internet applications), is currently being tested. 1, record 24, English, - self%2Dassessment%20guide

France's military carried out Europe's first test flight of a long-endurance unmanned surveillance vehicle known as the MALE drone, the country's defence ministry said on Monday. It is now set to carry out 12 more test flights of MALE(Medium Altitude, Long Endurance Drone), aiming to bring the vehicles into service in the French air force in 2007, the ministry said in a statement. 2, record 32, English, - medium%20altitude%20long%20endurance%20drone

We have seen a number of name changes over the last 60 years as the words Blue Cross were becoming synonymous worldwide with quality health care coverage. We were founded as the Maritime Hospital Service Association in 1943 and became known as the Maritime Blue Cross-Blue Shield Association in 1954. We became Blue Cross of Atlantic Canada in 1986 and, when joined with Maritime Medical Care in 1999, the trade name Atlantic Blue Cross Care was adopted. Our expansion into the Quebec and Ontario markets led to the need for a new name that would encompass all three regions. We created the name "Medavie" because it decribes our business and works well in both our English and French markets. Medavie is derived from the English and French words for "medical" and "to life". We offer everything from medical to life insurance. 1, record 41, English, - Medavie%20Blue%20Cross

1, record 41, French, - Croix%20Bleue%20Medavie

The construction of the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline is one of the most promising projects carried out as part of the Maghreb-Europe partnership. This project is considered as a physical link between the Maghreb and Europe pending the fixed link between Tangiers and the Rock of Gibraltar. The Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline which was dedicated on November 8, 1996 will link the Hass R’mel field in Algeria with Cordoba, in Andalusia through Morocco. It will service in a first stage the Spanish, Portuguese and Moroccan markets, then the French and German ones with an expected increase by 2000. It will supply 1, 500 million cubic meters of gas to Morocco. 3, record 44, English, - Maghreb%2DEurope%20gas%20pipeline

Caution : If the ball touches the net on a service, the net judge will call "net", or sometimes "fillet"(French Open). The umpire, however, will call "let", since "let" is the official call he must make. This distinction is not always upheld in social play, where informally one hears the following expressions :"two", "take two", or "play two", i. e. take two serves since the first one touched the net(and landed in), "play one", "take one", "second serve", i. e. first serve touched the net and landed out. ... a section of a city, primarily a residential area. It usually represents the service area of a high school, contains a business center, and commonly constitutes a section of the city measuring two or three miles across. It can be thought of as a "community of neighborhoods" because it is usually composed of three to five neighborhoods. The above definition describes the "community" as a physical entity and allows us to distinguish it from the "neighborhood unit" for purposes of defining planning areas in a city. Note however that the term also refers to a social reality usually including geographic territory, but more importantly involving people held together by psychological, sociological and/or economic bonds or by a common purpose. In this sense, it is not as closely associated to the idea of geographical proximity as either "neighborhood" or the French "quartier". Even in strict planning terms, "community" is a broader term than "quartier" in that it can also apply to entire cities or towns or, conversely, to small rural settlements. 1, record 52, English, - community

2, record 52, French, - quartier

Arming for the data wars. The news and data streaming endlessly through computers is a big business in its own right. Last year, the four main companies-Bloomberg, Bridge, Dow Jones and Reuters-together collected $4. 4 billion of sales for providing the information that lubricates the workings of the financial markets. What makes each service unique is the historical data it offers and the number-crunching software it provides for customers to analyse the data. If, say, a fund manager has a peculiar hunch that price swings in French shares might affect the way American municipal bonds fluctuate, he needs decades of prices and a sophisticated way to process them. A vendor that can provide him only two years of stock prices will not meet his needs. Although Reuters’ breadth of information remains unmatched, it has yet to master the art of supplying historical data packaged up with analytical software. For now, that market belongs to Bloomberg. 4, record 53, English, - knowledge%20warfare
