In civil aviation, very high frequency(VHF) amplitude modulated(AM) radio is typically used for radio voice communication between personnel in the cockpit and personnel in the air traffic control tower. VHF AM radio utilizes "simplex"(also called "half duplex") mode : i. e. a particular channel is used for both sides of a two-way conversation, and only one party can talk at a time(also known as "two way radio"). 4, record 21, English, - simplex

Two definitions have arisen over time: a common definition, which is used as an ANSI [American National Standards Institute] standard and elsewhere, and an ITU-T [International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector] definition. The ITU definition of simplex is termed "half duplex" in other contexts. 5, record 21, English, - simplex
Record number: 21, Textual support number: 5 OBS
According to ANSI standard, simplex also refers to communication that occurs in one direction only, from one device to the next. In the simplex mode, one of the devices can transmit but cannot receive, or it receives but does not transmit. Raytheon's IMS [Integrated Maritime Surveillance] uses land-based long-range surface wave radar, which transmits high frequency(HF) radio waves that follow the earth's curvature. The SWR-503 Surface Wave Radar detects and tracks aircraft, surface vessels and icebergs out to 500 km from the shore in a sector of up to 120 degrees. The radar also provides current and surface wind data. At an Operations Control Centre, the IMS system correlates detections from surface wave radar sites with identification information from ADS systems and other sensors. All of this data is fused to create a database and display system providing a complete picture of surface and air activity in the EEZ. Vessel tracks can be run backward and forward in time, enhancing military patrols and coast guard search-and-rescue efforts as well as oil spill control, drug interdiction, and iceberg alerts. Applications for HF Surface Wave Radar are being developed in fields such as Theatre Ballistic Missile and Meteor Shower Detection. 5, record 35, English, - high%2Dfrequency%20surface%20wave%20radar

Because medium-scale integration(MSI) and large-scale integration(LSI) generally imply digital integrated circuits(ICS), equipment intended to test LSI/MSI devices usually comprises a digital test system. Although manually operated benchtop units are available to test digital logic in a production environment, automated test systems are dictated. Thus, in general, LSI/MSI testers are automated, programmable systems that provide sophisticated test patterns at high repetition rates(usually, rated device operating frequency), with precise edge timing and control of all test parameters. Employed primarily for testing at wafer probe and for final package test(interfaced to a wafer prober or a high-speed, sort devices into predetermined categories based upon test performance, and reject defective devices. A current trend-particularly for semiconductor memories-is to integrate test systems with burn-in systems. 1, record 50, English, - LSI%2FMSI%20tester

The equalizer consists of two units : an amplifier and a group of resonant circuits; and a control panel containing a group of attenuator controls, with straightline characteristics, operating in conjunction with a panel designed to show the equalization graphically by the position of the equalizer controls. Each control permits a portion of the audio frequency spectrum to be increased or decreased 8 dB in steps of 1 dB. Frequencies of 63, 160, 400, 1000, 2500, and 6300 Hz have been selected to provide a balanced energy response in the intermediate frequencies. Because of the control panel design... The efficacy of antibiotic resistance(barrier) precautions for control of aminoglycoside resistance was evaluated from 1978 to 1981. Despite increasing aminoglycoside use and a 13-fold increase in aminoglycoside-resistant isolates on a newly opened oncology unit, the hospital-wide frequency of aminoglycoside resistant Enterobacterioceae remained low, supporting the continued value of barrier precautions which were initiated in our hospital in 1974.(Medline) 2, record 68, English, - barrier%20precaution
