The notion of critical bands, introduced by Fletcher(1940), explains the masking of a narrow band(sinusoidal) signal by a wideband noise source... One can think of a critical band as a frequency selective "channel" of psychoacoustic processing; only noise falling within the critical bandwidth can contribute to the masking of a narrow band signal. The mammalian auditory system consists of a whole series of critical bands, each filtering out a specific portion of the audio spectrum. 4, record 1, English, - critical%20bandwidth

Noise Suppression Filter. The patent describes a simple and inexpensive device for filtering undesirable high frequency noise from analog data outputs of a data processing system, which operates in two different modes and switches automatically from one to the other depending on the rate of change of data functions and on data transient amplitude with respect to full scale. 1, record 2, English, - noise%20suppression%20filter

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The Gamma filter performs gamma map filtering. Gamma filtering is primarily used on radar data to remove high frequency noise(speckle) while preserving high frequency features(edges). The Gamma Map filter was first proposed by Kuan.... Lopes modified the Kuan Map filter by assuming a gamma distributed scene and setting up two thresholds. The gamma filter size ranges from 1 to 11. Different filter sizes will greatly affect the quality of processed images. If the filter is too small, the noise filtering algorithm is not effective. If the filter is too large, subtle details of the image will be lost in the filtering process. A 7x7 filter usually gives the best results.... The GAMMA filter performs spatial filtering on each individual pixel in an image using the grey level values in a square window surrounding each pixel. The dimensions of the filter must be odd, and can be from 3x3 to 11x11 pixels. 2, record 3, English, - gamma%20filter

The creation of narrow satellite beams permits not only the effective use of satellite power, but also allows the reuse of the frequency band and provides a means of overcoming the self-interference limit in CDMA.... Today's mobile satellites have onboard processors which connect an uplink band to a downlink beam. Processors use A/D conversion and digital filtering. The A/D converters quantize the signal and produce quantisation noise. The combined signal to quantization noise ratio is(N/C) q=(L2-1)/p2pa. 2, record 4, English, - signal%2Dto%2Dquantization%20noise

(...), the MTD [Moving Target Detection] principle involves dividing up the entire radar coverage area into small range-azimuth cells-(...) called ’coherent processing intervals’(CPI). Eight pulses generated at a constant repetition frequency are assigned to each cell, and each return is subjected to Doppler filtering over a range of velocity values. The particular feature of MTD is its ability to measure the density of clutter and to detect the sudden presence of an additional element-such as an aircraft moving into a particular cell-even though it may have zero relative velocity on account of its tangential track. 1, record 10, English, - coherent%20processing%20interval

1, record 10, French, - intervalle%20de%20traitement%20coh%C3%A9rent
