FREQUENCY LOCKING [5 records]

DEF

The phenomenon exhibited by laser gyros that is characterized by frequency locking of the clockwise and counterclockwise beams at low input rates.

CONT

Lock-in is a fundamental physical phenomenon associated with all oscillating devices. Laser gyros exhibit the same phenomenon, in that the coupling mechanism is the reflection of light from one laser beam back along the path where it interacts with the oppositely traveling beam. This is called backscatter and is caused primarily by imperfect mirrors.

OBS

[Lock-in] is caused by the coupling of energy between the laser beams and results in a threshold error near zero input angular rate unless a corrective means, such as biasing, is used.

CONT

CONT

In order to achieve a stable long term operation without frequent calibrations, the wavelength of the transmitter laser is locked to the iodine absorption peak. Wavelength locking to the Doppler-broadened iodine absorption line was used because it requires much less power than a locking into a hyperfine structure of the iodine absorption line with Doppler-free technique. Compared to the wavelength locking with a high resolution etalon, the advantage of the locking to an iodine absorption peak is that, iodine peak provides an absolute frequency reference.

DEF

A graph so called, because it contains an infinite number of steps, between any two steps. But naturally, most of the steps have an infinitesimal width, since there is a(countably) infinite number of them on a bounded interval. In practice, the steps having a non-negligible width are those corresponding to frequency locking where the rational number is a ratio between small integers, e. g. 1/1, 1/2, 2/3, etc.

CONT

The Cantor function describes the distribution of mass along the Cantor bar. Many writers refer to its graph as the Devil’s staircase, because it is odd indeed ... The Cantor staircase is a nondecreasing and non-constant function that is singular in the sense that it is continuous but nondifferentiable. Its derivative vanishes almost everywhere, and its continuous variation manages to occur over a set whose length - i.e.- linear measure - vanishes.

DEF

PHR

escalier du Diable complet, incomplet.
