Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry … determines the [mass-to-charge] ratio of ions by measuring the cyclotron frequency of the ions in a fixed magnetic field. The method differs significantly from other mass spectrometry techniques in that the ions are indirectly detected by the measurement of the cyclotron(rotational) frequency that they produce as they rotate in a magnetic field. 1, record 6, English, - Fourier%20transform%20ion%20cyclotron%20resonance%20mass%20spectrometry

A separate method called serial analysis of gene expression(SAGE) was described... In this method, short sequence tags were isolated from the tissue, concatenated and cloned. The sequence of the clones allowed development of a profile for the gene expression. Quantitative data regarding the prevalence of an expressed gene was derived from the frequency that a given sequence was found. Furthermore, new transcripts which corresponded to novel tags could be identified. Therefore, SAGE should allow defining quantitative assessment of gene expression in tissues under normal and abnormal conditions. 4, record 9, English, - serial%20analysis%20of%20gene%20expression

The simplest method for indexing articles for bibliographic databases is extraction indexing, in which terms are extracted from the text of the article for inclusion in the index. The frequency of words in the article is determined, and the words which are found most often are included in the index. Sum Frequency Generation Spectroscopy(SFG) is a technique used to analyze surfaces and interfaces. This spectroscopy method utilizes sum frequency generation, where two light beams mix at a surface and generate an output beam with a frequency equal to the sum of the two input frequencies. From the experiment setup and the output beam, one can deduce the composition, orientation distributions, and some structural information of molecules on a surface. SFG has advantages in its ability to be monolayer surface sensitive, ability to be performed in situ(for example aqueous surfaces and in gases), and not causing much damage to the sample surface. 3, record 14, English, - sum%2Dfrequency%20generation

Temporal Paul wavelet analysis for instantaneous phase extraction using shadow moiré technique is proposed. Unlike the Morlet wavelet, the Paul wavelet has less restriction on the adjustment of wavelet parameters and can provide an optimal time and frequency resolution for a particular application by selecting the proper parameters. The Paul wavelet is a complex wavelet and is suitable for processing the temporal intensity data obtained from the shadow moiré technique for the phase retrieval. The proposed method can extract the phase information related to the state of the dynamic object at every instant in temporal domain. The phase information is associated to the displacement, three-dimensional(3D) surface-profile and the instantaneous state of the dynamic object. In addition, the instantaneous frequency of vibrating object can be obtained using the scale of the wavelet ridge by direct integration without temporal and spatial phase unwrapping. Thus the phase unwrapping error can be avoided. An experiment is conducted on the central loaded beam to demonstrate the validity of the proposed technique. 3, record 17, English, - shadow%20moir%C3%A9%20technique

The term “moiré” is ... a French word referring to “an irregular wavy finish usually produced on a fabric by pressing between engraved rollers” (Webster’s 1981). In optics it refers to a beat pattern produced between two gratings of approximately equal spacing. It can be seen in everyday things such as the overlapping of two window screens, the rescreening of a half-tone picture, or with a striped shirt seen on television. The use of moiré for reduced sensitivity testing was introduced by Lord Rayleigh in 1874. Lord Rayleigh looked at the moiré between two identical gratings to determine their quality even though each individual grating could not be resolved under a microscope. ... Since Lord Rayleigh first noticed the phenomena of moiré fringes, moiré techniques have been used for a number of testing applications. Righi (1887) first noticed that the relative displacement of two gratings could be determined by observing the movement of the moiré fringes. The next significant advance in the use of moiré was presented by Weller and Shepherd (1948). They used moiré to measure the deformation of an object under applied stress by looking at the differences in a grating pattern before and after the applied stress. They were the first to use shadow moiré, where a grating is placed in front of a nonflat surface to determine the shape of the object behind it by using the shape of the moiré fringes. 4, record 17, English, - shadow%20moir%C3%A9%20technique

The changing state of the ionosphere is generally monitored by networks of vertical ionosondes. These radars transmit and receive HF (1- 30MHz) radio waves to and from the ionosphere directly above the monitoring station. The result is real-time information on the state of the ionosphere needed by communications users allowing them to adapt their operational systems accordingly. The oblique ionospheric sounder extends this idea. The transmitter and receiver of the oblique sounder are not co-located like the vertical but are generally hundreds thousands of kilometres apart. So the instrument is able to study how the radio signals of real communications (below 30MHz) propagate via the ionosphere under a variety of conditions. However the interpretation of the oblique propagation is also significantly harder than the case of the vertical. 3, record 28, English, - oblique%20ionospheric%20sounding

Those experiments in which an auxiliary tone was made to beat with an aural harmonic prove definitely that the phase-relations among harmonic components of a stimulus are detectable, for otherwise these beats would not occur. A harmonic in the stimulus may reinforce or cancel an aural harmonic. Under the method of ’best beats’ we perceive an alternate reinforcement and cancellation due to a constantly changing phase between the auxiliary tone and the aural harmonic. When, however, the auxiliary tone is identical in frequency with the aural harmonic, no beats are heard; but it can be shown that the auditory experience which occurs neverthelesss depends upon the phase-relation between the auxiliary tone and the aural harmonic. 1, record 38, English, - aural%20harmonic

High-frequency sealing is the most-used method for sealing laminated tubes. Its advantages include excellent seal strength and high speeds. 1, record 47, French, - cylindre%20de%20d%C3%A9cantation
